Dec. 2011-June 2012 face Punk was one of the single most irritating, hateable, off-putting protaganists in wrestling history. Modern-day babyface Miz exudes the charm and charisma of a young Jimmy Stewart in comparison.

Punk is fine as a face but I don't think he works as the kind of face who sticks up for the fans and can act silly from time to time and makes jokes. He needs to be serious and call out heels when they're being out of line and and be this close to kicking someone's ass at all times and not worry what the fans think. They'll latch onto him anyway because of his natural charisma.

The guy's a natural heel, and I think he loves to be hated. Then he must be very unhappy with all the cheers. You people are making CM Punk sad!

and yet, here we are in a thread started by someone else who preferred a non-Punkish version of Punk as a face. Still, I overstated a bit. CM Punk's early ECW run, through I think his first MiTB cash-in was fairly true to himself and I found him an okay face. I never had issue with your opinion, just your wording. You often speak in absolutes. I do. So do many others. The guy who started the thread did to. Why correct me?

He's just not the kind of babyface WWE has these days. The way he is right now, with a few tweaks (no cheap heat attacks on crowd, less exaggerating/lying), would make an awesome babyface.

Agreed on all accounts. He is a tall, tattoo covered, larger than life icon who will stare you the f*** down and beat the s*** out of you if you stand in his way. He is a cool, interesting looking guy that gets people's attention when he talks. There is no conceivable way in which he can't be the most badass anti hero babyface in WWE history, or atleast to Austin levels (but they are very different in character obviously) He should and can be wrestling's John Mclane, Blade, The Driver (Drive2011), Tyler Durden, Rorschach all rolled into one. Who will quote poetry and meaningful in depth phrases and monologues (his ROH Snake, Box with God, SES Jesus promos etc) before being the most intense, well rounded wrestler in the matches. Yes he is a great heel but I truly think it has come that point in his career where he should be face. If people are cheering for him like they are, after everything he has done in recent months to get heat, then why keep not let it take its natural course and have him as a face. In an ideal world I would have a double turn at the Rumble. With Heyman aligning himself with Hollywood Rock version 2. CM Punk loses the title. The next match is the Royal Rumble, in which Punk wins after a hard fought victory being a surprise entrant at #10. Brock wins the title in the elimination chamber match against Hollwood Rock, Cena, Bryan, Kane, Ziggler. Brock is a destructive lone monster, who even the heel group of Heyman, Rock, Shield are scared of. Punk goes in as the underdog against Brock at Mania, who is built up to be unstoppable. And Hollywood Rock goes against Daniel Bryan, after Bryan eliminates him in the ec. Cena goes against Undertaker wanting to prove it to himself that he can defeat him after Takers gong distracts him the EC and gets him eliminated.

I just don't consider anti-heroes to be natural faces.

The problem with this scenario is that it is highly unlikely that John Cena is standing tall in the ring, at the end of the show, which is what the WWE seems to want and is booking him towards. You can write a better show on paper pretty easily. Ain't the one you're gonna get, though.
