And promptly squashed him-
Where do you think he coulda risen in the 'E?
Like I don't see him being a main event main stay during his stint there, but with his ability to connect with crowds, I think he coulda been easily a Kane-type guy where you can put him anywhere on the card and it fit.

DDP was about 45-years old when he came to WWE and had nagging injuries to deal with. I don't think there's really much they could have done with him, even if he'd been booked better.

I could have gotten into DDP as the lone wolf Invasion babyface not entirely trusted by the WWF, but not agreeing with WCW's actions against the former company.

No matter what it was, anything would have been better. Even with him being banged up they had a 9-10 month run out of him to WM, and pretty much pissed it away.
Not to mention that was the WM that featured the pointless Angle-Kane match, Nash had no opponent and Austin got thrown into a match against Hall, that no one cared about.

He would have been great as a part-time veteran who puts up-and-comers over either through taking a loss or barely winning after a hell of a fight.

I dont think he would've gotten much further if he was WCW style DDP.
He was thrust into a feud with Taker of all people. Thats a helluva thing.

No one was getting over with that theme they gave him. That Teen Spirit theme he had, they owned, they just refused to use it.

I don't know much about that era of wrestling, but wasn't DDP struggling with the injuries that eventually led him to become the guru he is today? Figure his gimmick wouldn't have mattered much then.

It wasn't the stalker angle that killed him, it was his matches with Taker. I watched at least a dozen of the matches and Taker sold ONCE, and that was only because it was a nutshot. He looked weak and pathetic throughout the whole fued and never recovered.
He did an awesome job killing the stalker angle with his first promo, dropping it completely and saying how he was only doing it to poke the big dog and get (more) famous. Then for no apparent reason, it was picked back up. Maybe something could have worked there, but the constant squash matches completely buried him.
It's a shame because even beat up as he was, he could work a smart enough match to be entertaining and put some talent over.

This Wasn't even DDP stalking a chick that didn't compare to his wife that killed him. It was that it wasn't even a feud. All it did was put Taker over and make DDP look like a joke. It was symptomatic of how Vince screwed the invasion angle in general, refusal to let the WCW guys look legit.

Also, that last month before Hardcore Holly injured him, the WWE just let him be WCW DDP and he was getting very over. It was a great, albeit brief, run and shows glimpses of what might have been.

Sounds like it should have been in a Konami arcade beat 'em-up.

The simple reality was that during the beginning of the invasion angle they were low on WCW main eventers. They got two jewels immediately: Booker T and DDP. They decided to take one of those jewels and completely bury him, so he'd be of no use whatsoever for the rest of the angle.
In a storyline filled with stupid decisions, that might've been the worst, or at least near the top.

Rock vs DDP - Who's the real peoples champ? Swap Booker and DDP's roles and things would of been so much better, Taker and booker have always been good friends as well so no problem there. Such a missed opportunity it pisses me off to this day.

The point it all hit rock bottom was when Taker's wife pinned DDP. That was rock bottom, but it could have been acceptable considering that it was a fluke loss caused by Taker's interference. But considering that this was at the point of "he can't hurt Taker in the slightest any way shape or form" and now "he's even lost to a non-wrestler female".... yeah, rock bottom and the dirt thrown on the grave.

I'm still a believer that him, Booker, Jericho and Big Show could been the tops guys for the Alliance with Austin, Rock, Angle and Undertaker for WWF. Let those eight feud in a series of matches. Pretty much every match was fresh.

It was so stupid, especially when you consider that the crowd EXPLODED when he was revealed as the stalker.
