So am I the only one who thinks WWE printing Zak Ryder's "I am not on the 20th Anniversary of Raw but Dr Shelby is.." line is a slight hint at where he's going with his character?
I'm hoping for a bitter, pissed off "you forgot about me!" heel turn. Because if it's not, and they just printed it anyway on live TV, that's about as big a "screw you, you're not even important enough to censor" slap in the face as I've ever seen.

I don't even remember that tweet being on raw, to be honest.
But can't say I do, considering how they've been hyping his million followers thing on every social media thing they have. I have a theory that Vince's millionaire brain is wired to respond positively to the word "millions" no matter how little it actually means and will therefore give Ryder a face push starting next Monday.

Ryder must have pissed someone off backstage pretty bad for being as popular as he was and getting absolutely shut down like he did. He's just not that very good. He's a bad actor, has terrible delivery and is a decent but unspectacular wrestler. The whole allure of Ryder was the underdog, he was a true underdog but as soon as he got on TV, started winning and got promo time they effectively took away the reason people were behind him. He was no longer an underdog who was a victim of the 'system'. As soon as he got his push Z!TLIS' quality really suffered, he clearly didn't care as much now he'd got what he wanted and it was plainly obvious. He had a great little story, but it was never going to last. His attitude about it all really put me off. He seems very entitled. |

Only thing I'm gonna disagree with you on is that I don't think he's ever escaped underdog status. He won the US Championship but there was never a moment in their presentation that I felt like they were really into the idea of putting Ryder on TV. I think he earned himself a fan base larger than I ever would have expected him to based on his abilities but I do earnestly believe he got the shaft. He basically invented a new way to get over in wrestling and may have single handedly changed WWE's branding methodology. I'm aware that if we've seen Ryder at his best he's not really main event material but there's no reason they couldn't have kept him on TV in some capacity, even in dumb little "Eve keeps kicking me in the nuts" angles. They gave him a stint as US Champion that went completely eclipsed by his stint being the wheelchair kid from Mac and Me. |

He got demolished by Kane to give Cena face heat, people realized that he wasn't ever going to really be pushed, and THEN people turned on him. Everything else is just-world revisionism.

I still feel like Ryder has potential, albeit I think it's clear that he works best as a heel, not a face. ECW, WWECW, whatever you want to call it, he showed it there. He was cutting solid promos, as good as what alot of the upper card manages to cut on the big two. He was wrestling solid to great matches, and not just with arguably the promotion's MVP at the time, Christian.
I want to see that Ryder back, there's been glimpses of him, but not a full manifestation. I don't know if it's because he's less comfortable as a face, he's trying to restrict himself as a face. Or, it's the aforementioned bitterness and entitlement he seems to have developed.

Hell, John Morrison came off charismatic on a pre-taped, produced show, and he's universally accepted as being trash on the mic. And Zack talking about sending Jack Swagger "to the ER" sure as hell wasn't Creative's fault. Did the angle hurt him? I think we can all agree on that. But he certainly didn't help himself by being completely ass when he was live. Zack's problem is you can't hide behind the audio/visual equivalent to Photoshop on live television. |

I don't think they purposely screwed Ryder, I think they saw an opportunity to push MEGA FACE OF THE COMPANY FOR OVER 10 YEARS by using a guy who just got popular, by using him as his "little brother", his stupid clueless and not able to win anything little brother. |
