Now would be a good time to start the whole "drawing number 1" spiel.

don't they usually save those for the Rumble itself? I am sure they were airing it at least one or two Raw's before the Rumble last year or the year before. They used to do it with normal video package promos as well but they don't seem to do them now that they have gone 3 hours

Because once upon a time, there was Rumble Qualifying matches. They also hyped up the Rumble better than they are now. Then again, they hyped up PPV's better in general back then...

If not for the fact that the PPV is actually called "The Royal Rumble" I might have forgotten it was even on the upcoming PPV.
I know Punk/Rock is a really big match, but there needs to be more activity in the undercard about who is getting in, who's planning to win, some promos about it etc.
They've had these brief snippets with things like 3MB saying "We're all entering!". Why not have some undercard qualifiers? I missed most of the RAW on the 14th so maybe they had some, but it's been extremely underwhelming.

I'm a bit surprised we haven't had something like four way or triple threat with the winner getting number 30 and the loser getting number 1.

Doesn't feel like it's Rumble season because they've barely even mentioned it's happening. Even Ryback's promo would have been a good spot to promote the Rumble... but then, nah, let's talk about the Shield.

In kayfabe I really don't get how wrestlers "qualify" for the rumble this year. If the only thing you have to do is to announce that you are entering, why isn't everyone doing it? Or are we supposed to believe the wrestlers walk by Mr Mcmahon backstage casually proclaiming "..so I thought about entering the Royal Rumble" to which Vince replies "allrighty then"..Yeah lazy writing or lack there of

At the very least they always get #1 contenders matches, so it makes no sense why everyone doesn't just constantly demand title matches.

I grew up in the age when they would announce 4 or 5 Rumble entrants every week on Superstars and Challenge. And I enjoyed that for a long time.
Then they started having qualifying matches, and matches that decided who was #1 and who was #30, and made angles out of it. And that was fine for a while.....but got boring.
Then I stopped caring about the WWE a lot. Same ol' same ol', focusing on the same boring people who've been around too long or have been getting shoved down our throats like they're the next big thing, and the always interesting yet largely irrelevant midcard shuffled off to the internet-exclusive shows.
And those qualifying matches and angles focused.....yup, around the same old main eventers and left the midcarders out. So I got sick of those.
So now I very much enjoy not knowing who's in the Rumble, who #1 and #30 are, and not having all the entrants - same ol' competitors and obvious winners/eliminators - telegraphed ahead of time.
And because I watched Superstars and Challenge and remember them more fondly than most shows since, I like seeing the old guys from my youth show up as surprise Rumble entrants.
But that's just this ol' timer....whatevs.

Yeah - the lack of Royal Rumble statistics is noticeable. That and there's more chatter about Punk/Rock and whatever Ryback's doing than anything else.
Also, I always associate people pointing at the WM sign with the Royal Rumble. I'm already sick of the photos we'll see of dudes standing on the turnbuckle pointing to a WM sign.

They could have featured some of the NXT guys on the second hour of Raw in qualifying matches for 3 or 4 Rumble spots. Gives NXT some more exposure, since they've been giving it a bit of a nod lately anyway, and introduces the fans to the future guys. Plus, if you have one of them play the 'underdog' role by making it to the final four, you could create someone from it.
