kotaku.com/5976690/anime-director-satoshi-kons-posthumous-work-machine-that-dreams-may-end-as-dreamBasically the final film that the brilliant Satoshi Kon(director behind the EXCELLENT films Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Millenium Actress, and Paprika, as well as the anime series Paranoia Agent) was working on when he died from cancer, called Machine That Dreams, may not get finished thanks to a lack of funds. Of the film's 1500 scenes only 600 if them were finished before it was put on hold because the team making it ran out of funds, now the film's official site has been taken down(a hugely bad sign when it comes to Japanese media). This saddens me greatly as Satoshi Kon is one of my Holy Trinity of anime film directors(the other two are Hayao Miyazaki and Makoto Shinkai(the guy behind Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and 5 Centimeters Per Second)). It would be a huge blow to me if his last film never saw the light of day. This is the kind of situation that Kickstarter was MADE for. I honestly think if the team behind the film put this on Kickstarter they would get enough money from the fans of Kon's work to see it get finished. They have to do something, anything. They just can't let the last film of one of the greatest minds in anime up and die. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

As someone who watched and loved Perfect Blue and who has Paprika on the "Must Watch Soon" list, and as an anime fan in general, this truly would be tragic.

Does Japan even use Kickstarter, or have something that's like Kickstarter?

Does Japan even use Kickstarter, or have something that's like Kickstarter? I'd assume they would. Even if not, I could see somebody starting it in english and translating it for the team receiving the funds.

You'd think that Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky would help contribute some cash seeing how they were heavily influenced by Kon's work, hell you could even argue Aronofsky owes his career to Kon......
