In case you missed it, last week Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath announced that he's putting together a Carnival Cruise this October that will feature essentially all of 90s pop-rock radio in one four-day cruise. The line-up: Gin Blossoms, Smash Mouth, Cracker, Spin Doctors, Vertical Horizon, The Verve Pipe, Marcy Playground and, yes, Sugar Ray. I had the chance to interview Mark for the LA Weekly about it. He's a great guy, and it was pretty cool to get his thoughts - blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2013/01/mark_mcgrath_cruise_friends.php

I think Mark is pretty awesome and Sugar Ray doesn't get the respect they deserve. I may be biased as Mark followed me on twitter for a couple hours.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

Back in July, I saw The Summerland tour which consisted of Sugar Ray, Marcy Playground, Everclear, Gin Blossoms and Lit.
Probably one of the best shows Ive ever been to.
Just tossing that out there

I'm not a Twitter person, but I would think you can just follow someone and leave it like that. What did you do to get unfollowed?! ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Which show was he at, if I may ask?

Just tossing that out there my brother went to one of those shows, and he said Everclear was awful Guessing by your location, was it the show at the Revel at Atlantic City? I wouldn't blame Everclear for that one, I think their instruments were all plugged into the wrong mixers (acoustics were ran through electrics, etc.) making the whole thing sound muddied. I was at that show and had seen them before, and you could tell they seemed a bit frustrated about something like something was off. That's just speculation on my end though. But yeah, Summerland was great.

I'm surprised that Everclear wasn't that good, because Art and Mark Mcgrath were money performing on Howard Stern to promote the shows.

I have a couple of friends who would really dig this tour (one guy who worships at the altar of Everclear), and I, for one, am still a pretty big Sugar Ray fan. So many good pop-rock jams: "Fly," "Answer the Phone," "Every Morning," "When It's Over," "Disasterpiece." Also, "Falls Apart" was pretty heavy as a teenager.

I'm surprised that Everclear wasn't that good, because Art and Mark Mcgrath were money performing on Howard Stern to promote the shows. I personally have heard from just about everyone that's seen Everclear in recent years that they suck now in general.

Just tossing that out there Yea I saw them in August and while I wasn't a huge fan of the 90s, this was a pretty good show and Mark is a really great entertainer. I have said for years now that package tours need to come back and I think this one did pretty well

I went to Ribfest 2002 in Chicago and Semisonic performed as a 'headliner'. Poor guys had to deal with this guy who kept asking to play "Closing Time". That was four years after they were one hit-wonders. I can only imagine it would be even worse if they're still together after all these years.

Over the summer there was a free show where I saw Eve 6, Spin Doctors and Third Eye Blind. All were awesome and a lot of fun
