Because it isn't exactly legal? Sure the emulator itself is legal but the ROMs many times are not. Case in point ROMs of console games especially games released exclusively to specific consoles would definitely be illegal(as I'd find it hard to believe that the person releasing the ROM of said game got the legal license to do so). But not all emulation requires ROM's or ISO's? I mentioned my machine being capable of PS1, PS2, and even Wii emulation, but I can play those games I own right off the discs without needing the ISO.

PS2 as it has playback features and I can still play PS1 games on it then.

Hmm....I still don't know how I'd feel about that kind of emulation. I don't know, I just feel console games should be played on the consoles that can play them and that PCs shouldn't be allowed to play console games.

Regardless of legality I don't think emulation, online re-releases or backwards compatibility are in the spirit of this thread, although I think physicaly released ports should count so maybe that's a bit hypocritical.
By that logic I'll go with the GBA (micro if I'm only allowed one) as it enables me to play more of my favourite games than any other console and it's portable. Most of all I need Mario even if he means I miss some of favourite non-Nintendo games..
The best 2D Marios, Pokemon, Mother 3 (yeah I know), FF4-6, Advance Wars 1&2, Warioware X2, Drill Dozer, LttP (and Minish Cap), Metroid: Fusion, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, Mario and Luigi, Mariokart and much more.

Backwards compatibility and online re-releases are certainly okay in regards to this thread. Homebrew & emulation, though, is cheating.

Normally, I'd go with my PS2 due to my addiction to Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X but I've since sold a large amount of my old games.
Due to that, I'm going with my 360. I have a multitude of games spanning several different genres and I'm convinced that I can play Skyrim forever and never get bored.

I guess I'll go with the PS3 since hopefully all my PS2 games would be released on it eventually anyway.

I definitely would pick the NES. Granted, the cases made for some of the other systems are strong (particularly systems with games that would last a long time), but for me, I constantly go back to my NES library and replay games all the time. If all I had was an NES, I'd be just fine.

Easily my 360, considering that most of the Elder Scrolls series is on there and all of the Mass Effect and Fallouts are as well, though I get the PS3 has most of those too.

PlayStation 2, but if you could find a 60GB PS3 you'd be in luck to have all the games of the Sony library.

If a PC with emulators is off the table, then definitely Sega Genesis.

Easily the Wii. Why? Well, aside from Wii having a large library of fun games, it's also easy to install the Homebr...[AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME!?]

I would have to go with my 360 simply because I have the most games for it and I can play online with most of my friends.

I'd love to have my PS2 back, but I gave it to a family member who would enjoy actually playing it instead of me breaking it out every once in awhile from my garage.
Katamari, FPR, Medal Of Honor...Yeah, I dun goofed.

I only own the Wii right now and barely play that - so I guess the Wii.
If I were a more srs gamer I'd say PS3 I guess.
