Does this mean it won't be backward compatible with the last 3 systems?

That comes from CVG "sources." Take that with the biggest grain of salt humanly possible.

Damn, I always thought Dualshocks were too pricey so I dread to think how much these would cost.

Hopefully Sony learned their lesson from the original boomerang controller that the PS3 had.

Hopefully Sony learned their lesson from the original boomerang controller that the PS3 had. I remember seeing this back when it was shown. I burst out laughing. Today I went back to check on what it looked like and again burst out laughing at the middle of work with people looking at me weirdly.

There's no need to change it. The Dualshock controller has always worked because of its symmetry and reliability. All the buttons really feel interactive and comfortable and there's enough of them to ape out basically any control scheme needed for a game. Also it's too familiar to anyone who's loyal to Sony. Getting rid of it would probably shred some brand loyalty.

I haven't seen this reported on any gaming news site worth their journalistic salt. So until any of them report on it, this is a sketchy rumor.
I wouldn't be opposed to it if is designed similar to the Vita as the Vita is comfortable as all f***.

I wouldn't really mind some changes made to the old Dual Shock controller as I have some definite issues with the design, mainly the placement and feel of the analog sticks, the segmented D-Pad, and in the PS3 controllers, the L2/R2 buttons (when you need to buy third party extenders to make them into proper triggers, something is wrong).
Basically if they ape the layout of the 360 pad and make the D-Pad not terrible, that'd be like my perfect controller.

Thank god for that. The PS controllers have been my least-favourite in each console generation.

The only problem I'd have with that is that the market would then be flooded with the same damn controller design. There is of course the 360 controller(and since d-pad aside it is a great design you can bet the 720's controller will be incredibly similar, maybe just with an internal battery like the PS3 and Wii U controllers are and with a better d-pad), and the Wii U's Pro Controller, and then the PS4 if that comes to pass.

I welcome this. The Dual Shock has always been a good control, but nothing more in my opinion. I greatly prefer the 360 control, I like the control stick placement better.

The PS3 was to get rid of the Dualshock but then it came back... With that being said this is a wait and see for me.

DualShocks are the perfect controller to me. I doubt they'll change them, but it would really suck if they did.

Yeah, the 360 controller is much better to me. Granted, the Gamecube controller is pretty much my benchmark and the 360's is the closest to matching it.

Calling BS on this until I see a new control type in the box with the PS4 basically ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Also, having played both religiously, PS3 control >>>>>>>>>>> 360 control. PS3 has a more sensible layout (Flatter, wider buttons, separate d-pad buttons, both sticks beside each other).

I greatly preferred the PS control designs to any other controller I've played, from the NES onward. So if this is true, it's disappointing to me.

Make it happen, Sony! ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) But yeah, like Groose said, it was kind of telling when PS3 was supposed to be the end of Dualshock and it still ended up happening anyway. Why not just keep it and make some tweaks/add some features? There's no need to reinvent the wheel here.
