Since the new DmC just came out, I thought I'd make this poll.
I thought the new game was fun, but too easy. DMC3 is still my favourite.
I'd rank them:
DMC3 DMC1 DmC DMC4
... and I never played 2.

Devil May Cry...2? What...what are you talking about? That never happened. There was the original game, then there was a prequel that for some reason was called DMC3, then that got a special edition, then there was a sequel to the original game that was called 4, I guess because they just decided to go with that weird numbering scheme. Then an HD collection and that new game/reboot. And that's it. That's all the games in the franchise. THAT. IS. ALL OF IT. {Spoiler}The joke here is I refuse to even acknowledge that 2 happened. It was that bad. I'd have to rank it 3, 1, 4, new one. Three was easily the best in the franchise, 1 barely edges out 4 because it started the franchise and because I personally think 4's not that bad. The backtracking is annoying, but the gameplay's solid, and that's all that matters. The remake...haven't played anything outside of the demo, but I was not a fan of the demo, so a full game of it would probably go below even 4.

3, hands down.
Then it's 1, 4, and 2. I have no intentions on playing DmC.

3 > 1 >>>>> 2. Never really played 4 and I don't want to touch DmC.

I guess I'll be skipping 2 on the HD collection, then.

I just picked 4 to give it a teensy bit of love, but for me it's really a toss-up between 3, 1, and 4. I like 'em all plenty. I tried replaying 1 fairly recently but it's starting to show its age a little bit now. Meanwhile while 4 is repetitive yes, I still have a LOT of fun playing it and Kyrie's singing still gets me right in the feelings.

I guess I'll be skipping 2 on the HD collection, then. 2 is actually "Present" Dante. It's not a great game (although I think most people blow it out of proportion), but if you're curious how Dante ends up, I'd give it a playthrough.

DMC2 is just really boring and an awful sequel. It's also, by far, the easiest of the original 3 games.

The original. I was blown away by it the first time I ever played it. All these years later it's still a great game. Speaking of the new DMC...I wish I could say that I'm blown away by that...but I'm not I got it on Tuesday and am already kinda bored with it.

The original by far. One of the first games I played on PS2, was blown away by it. 2 wasn't as bad as some let on, although I found Lucia to be rather annoying. Never played 3, and 4 decided to delete my progress just before the final boss, so I have no motivation to ever finish it. I think I'd just defeated Generic Love Interest's brother last time I played.
Nero's battle theme is badass though!
