One of the true greats. He was truly ahead of his time in that he was embracing the sabermetric philosophies of Bill James before Bill James even came up with it. There are managers all over baseball that still don't get that you should want guys with high on base plus slugging in your lineup as opposed to high batting averages, Earl was doing that over 40 years ago.

I remember sitting in Memorial Stadium as a kid and anytime Earl came out of the dugout to argue with an umpire the crowd went nuts.
