Since WWE has settled with the World Wildlife Fund for Nature over the name dispute, perhaps now would be a good time to bring back the full name of "World Wrestling Federation."
Now, I don't mean the company at large should go back to being the WWF or anything like that. WWE has rammed it down our throats as well as the media's that they are no longer just a "wrestling company", but a global media and entertainment empire, blah, blah, etc.
With that in mind, I would suggest that the company as a whole should still be known formally as "WWE, Inc." (since they orphaned the full title of "World Wrestling Entertainment" in 2011), which would encompass their entire media enterprise (WWE Films, books, music, etc.). What I am suggesting is that everything that takes place on RAW, SmackDown! pay-per-view, etc (basically everything to do with what goes on with the actual wrestling aspect of the company), should be rebranded as the "World Wrestling Federation." Much like the brand extension of 2002 had the "RAW" and "SmackDown!" brands, now that the brand split is finished on television, the roster as a whole could be rebranded as a single entity known as the World Wrestling Federation.
In fact, this sort of rebranding has taken place before. WWE was originally known as "Titan Sports" with the WWF being it's main subsidiary. It was later changed to "World Wrestling Federation Entertainment" (or WWFE) in 1999 with the company's IPO.
The name itself has too much history and prestige to just be abandoned forever. The name change was necessary for legal reasons, but, now they can bring it back while still marketing themselves as a global media empire known as WWE.
What do you think? Would you be in favor of such a rebranding?

No, because I grew up with the WWE and I'm one of those guys that hate change.

I like it. World Wrestling Federation is a badass name and World Wrestling Entertainment still doesn't sound right.

Just stop bleeping out and blurring old footage and everything will be dandy. They have. Started about six months ago. I don't think WWE would be allowed to change back as they still refer to the past as "WWE" rather than "the WWF" when mentioning it in the present. They merely are no longer required to censor their old footage.

Why go through another awkward rebranding period where everyone gets the name wrong? One was enough.

I wish all along that they had kept the name World Wrestling Federation and just conceded the WWF initials. Basically that would leave the fans open to still calling it the WWF but the company would never use the acronym itself.

They can't. The deal was for only past media not current or future media or promotions. Even the Attitude Era DVD has a sneakily placed DX logo so people didn't notice the F was missing.

Why go through another awkward rebranding period where everyone gets the name wrong? One was enough. It would be hilarious if they changed back to "WWF" and the average person finally started calling it "WWE".

Why go through another awkward rebranding period where everyone gets the name wrong? One was enough. So many people still call it the WWF though. As far as I'm concerned, WWE still sounds wrong. Every time I have to say it out loud, it sounds so forced.

hmm, WWE still sounds weird, but WWF sounds almost as weird now too, like people are talking about a show from my childhood.....which is true I guess

I think they should keep the WWE initials. That being said, they should also change their name to World Wildlife Entertainment.

I've grown to accept it as WWE, and call it that, despite growing up around WWF. I still find that most people who don't watch still call it WWF, since that's what they remember it as, despite it being the 'entertainment giant' it is now.
Changing it now would just confuse their biggest market in the kids. It'd be a nice thing for older fans to have 'their WWF' back, but when going forward it makes little sense.

WWE, WWF, It doesn't matter what they call it as long as it's entertaining. Hell they could call it the Cupcake Wrestling Association and if it's entertaining people will watch it.
With that said I would love for it to be the WWF again. The name just sounds better and has more history behind it. I don't think it'd be a big change, the boom period happened when it was WWF and I'd guess that most casual fans still call it that.

I just call it 'the wrestling.'
Everyone knows what I mean. WWE is the only proper game in town.

The fact that people grew up with it as WWE makes me feel REALLY REALLY old.... And makes me a little sad too. Agreed. To me, my childhood memories of watching the WWF include a time when the ropes were red, white, and blue, there was very little pyro, Vince McMahon was just an announcer, and the referees wore button-ups and bow-ties.

Isn't McMahon purposely keeping it as wwe because it gives him a chance to act as if wrestling isn't the only thing he does? I mean, the law suit by the world wildlife fund was within the UK. Couldn't Vince just have kept it as wwf around the rest of the world?
