Couldn't really fit the the proper question into the title, but after you apply to a job how long do you wait before you give up hope on getting a response? Usually, I figure that if I don't hear back for a week than I won't be hearing back at all.
I started this thread becuase oddly enough I just heard back from a job that I first applied to in early December about setting up an interview.

usually 5 minutes, but thats usually because there is a lot of people applying so it takes a while for it to be seen.

The best thing to do is to just move on immediately. When I had difficulty finding a job several years ago when I lived in a competitive city, I just made it a goal of submitting apps every day. I learned my lesson after waiting around for a management position from one place that never called back and went with a new approach to not even wait. I eventually got hired onto Papa John's. It wasn't my ideal job at the time, but I moved my way up the ladder pretty quickly while I was there and in no time, I was making the same pay as the management job I wanted to wait around for.

Last year, the only two callbacks I had from resumes were both about two weeks after I had submitted them. So far this year, I have gotten four emails requesting more information that both came less than a week after. Two of those have led to interviews and one of the companies called today to schedule a second interview for later this week.
