DmC's gameplay is like a watered down version of the original series. I mean, it's functional, but it's not great. It's also ridiculously easy to get high grades, which feels like it cheapens the whole scoring system. The boss fights are also a huge step down from previous games. They look like they got more in common with God of War, Darksiders, or even Zelda than Devil May Cry. Though this is sort of Ninja Theory's design philosophy: create lesser, though still adequate, copycats of better games. Heavenly Sword was essentially Weeaboo God of War. Kung Fu Chaos was a borderline racist Super Smash Bros. Enslaved was probably the most original game they've made from a design perspective. I really don't get why Ninja Theory is held in such high regard in the industry and among some gamers. I've never been impressed by anything they've done. I think the reason Ninja Theory is held in such high regard is a two fold thing: 1) They released one of the few good PS3 games in the pre-2009 wasteland that was the PS3's library. And I'm not talking just PS3 exclusives. I mean all encompassing, multiplatform releases included. Looking back at Heavenly Sword it is still competent, yeah, but it isn't anywhere near as good as I thought it was in 07. Then again, at the time I was desperate for good PS3 games. 2) They are the best third party hack 'n slash developers in the West. It is sad, but true. Hell they are one of the few in the West period. All the good hack 'n slash action game makers are in Japan, or Sony's Santa Monica studio. That being said I've played the DmC demo and yeah it is a watered down DMC experience combat wise and at least in the demo it felt like they tried too hard to make this game "cool". Made even worse when I played the Metal Gear Rising demo shortly afterwards. Now MGR is f***ing cool, nay, AWESOME and it doesn't try as hard as DmC. I would add that they do a fantastic job at having their characters relate to each other as well, and even if the story isn't grea those relationships are. Not sure how DMC has fared, but Enslaved was amazing at this and Heavenly Sword did a decent job as far as I have heard.

Able to make great character interaction but average stories.

That's really the biggest difference in approach between Classic DMC and DmC.
DmC tells you how cool it is. And it tries really hard to be cool!
Classic DMC just doesn't give a f***. It's cool and it knows it.

It's a 7/10 game, acceptable and solid but nothing groundbreaking. It's much easier then any game in the series except for maybe 2, the camera is terrible and the story is a retread of 4 except with social media instead of religion as a major tool of the villains.

It's cool and it knows it. That seems to be a trend. Tomb Raider Legend was a lot like that compared to the classic games, same with Duke Nukem Forever (thankfully though, the new TR game looks like it's going to redeem the series. See, THAT'S how you do a reboot).
