I'm gearing up for another long drive on Friday so to ease the pain I thought I'd reflect on even longer drives I've made.
The most states I ever drove across in one day is 5. It was actually about two or three weeks ago when I drove from Massachusetts to New Jersey and passed through Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York along the way.
Oddly enough I've driven further in one day. I made the drive from Massachusetts to Montreal years ago, but only passed through New Hamphsire and Vermont before hitting Canada.
Friday I'll be headed to New York, but it is just a straight drive all the way through Massachusetts before I get to Hudson, New York.

When my family and I moved from Alabama to Wisconsin I traveled through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and through most of Illinois until we stopped in Peoria to rest. So, four.

My senior year, our high school band went to New York. I believe the day/night we went back, we were in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. So 5.

New Jersey to South Carolina. Part one of a two part trip to Florida.
So that's New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia (bypassing DC), North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Pft, the states in the NE shouldn't count. They're like midwestern counties.
3 for me. From Eastern KS to central Utah.

my answer is in the OP
massachusetts to the Jersey shore crossing through RI, CT, and NY.
it takes hours to get through connecticut, then new york is a short drive and you enter into NJ. we've been going to the shore 3 years now, and each time i've been tricked into feeling that once we enter NJ that we're almost there and it just takes forever.
we drove from Massachusetts from Florida when I was about 5 probably. but we stayed in a hotel 2 nights on the way there.

I went from Iowa to washington DC. All but like 70 miles was wide open interstate going like 80 minimum.
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
I'm to lazy to google the route to see all the states.
