Like, an all-out wise aging wizard looking beard, not stubble.
I've had some time off of work for undisclosed reasons so I figured I'd see what I looked like without my usual clean shaven look, and the result after two weeks has been dissapointing. I'm back in on Monday so it has to come off. Exactly how much time do you need to get a real beard going? I wanted to look like Daniel Bryan, not The Miz.

It depends on the guy, and what kind of length you're really going for. Some guys can do it in a few weeks, others it might never happen

After about 3 weeks I can comb it and the comb will stay in it. Everyone's different though.

I don't have the patience to grow one. After about 3 days I need to shave or I feel unclean. One day I will grow one though.

Depends on genetics and age but if you're capable of growing one then approximately 2-3 months for a big one like your talking about (and even then that's probably just the base for growing really long).
A little goatee or something similar can be grown much quicker.

This is a few months, I think, along with some trimming, though at its height(or length), it was a few inches longer. I had to comb it in the morning or it'd feel tangled.

This took about 5 months to grow, but I've since shaved it off. The fun part is growing it out anyway.

My facial hair's fickle as all hell. Some times, I can leave it for a few weeks, and end up with a tiny amount of stubble, others I can go a couple of days and have full on mutton chops almost!
Like, I'm letting it grow out ATM, and for the first week or so, it was quite rapid, with the moustache filling in well, but now it's going real slow.
Plus, the chin is going slowest, so at this rate, I'll look like an inventor from the 1800's!

One week has a fine outline, another two to have substantial filling. That's just me though.

I don't think I've shaved my beard off for like 18 months or so. It doesn't look anywhere as cool as I would have hoped. It just looks like a sad, sleepy deposit of crusty hair pooled at the bottom of my chin. I can't grow sideburns to save my life. It does hide my fat guy chin though.

I stopped shaving end of Oct. and got about 3 inches of the worst beard you've ever seen right now. Two-tone and I stopped even trimming it a month ago so I got a neck beard going as well. I've been debating cutting it all off. Gotta get a new razor though since my last one broke.

For me, no less than six months I'd estimate. But, I grow facial hair pretty quick and thick. Bryan seems to be about the same time span.

I can grow a full beard within a week, though I have sensitive skin so it just bugs me after awhile. I like having a next-day stubble as my regular look, but it gets too gruff after a few days without the shaver. I've never tried to do the wizard beard, but in 2010 I went through a "I hope I get hit by a bus today' phase and stopped shaving entirely. In 3 months, I had a pretty impressive beard. It needed some trimwork with scissors before I shaved it.

It takes a week for me to grow a manly beard Same here. The worst are days 2 & 3 when I have the sandpaper grade stubble.

It takes me about 3 or 4 weeks to grow what I would deem a pretty good beard (think Kevin McDonald in that old KitH sketch). Beyond that I wouldn't know, as I've never let it go to full on hobo territory.

About a month for me. Grows quite good, get compliments whenever I go to a concert or something. But I now work in a sterile environment, that means I have to be clean shaven or wear a constricting mask all day. I took comfort over a fine manly beard.
