Today, I watched "The Transformers: The Movie" for the first time. I have to say that it was an entertaining animated flick and when I heard the song "The Touch," I immediately thought of "Boogie Nights." Also, when I was watching the movie, I thought to myself "This blows the Michael Bay films out of the water." If any new "Transformers" movies were to be anything like the cartoons, it's best to leave it animated, whether it's 2D style animation or CGI animation like "Transformers Prime."
Anybody else watch this?

It, along with the Generation 1 cartoon, was staple cornerstone of my childhood. I love the movie and feel it still stands up today to a point. It also probably helps that I'm not a Rodimus Prime hater.
Plus it has one of the best soundtracks ever, and Megatron fighting Optimus Prime with a lightsaber.

I saw it without ever being a fan of G1 transformers, and really thought it didn't hold up on it's own. Aside from that one song, there wasn't really anything that made me more interested in seeing the original show (in fact, I was so turned off by some of the characters, it really made it less likely for me to be interested). I'm sure if I had a connection to the cartoon, it would have been a whole lo better, but without it, I just didn't like it.

Wait until you watch it again.
And again.
And again.
I don't think any movie has grown on me more than this one with repeat viewings. The first time I watched it I was like, lol, cool, but of course didn't really yknow have the chance to learn all the like 100 different characters and pick up on all the little stuff going on anywhere.

I didn't cry when my father died, by when Optimus passed on to that great Truck Stop in the sky, I sure as hell did.

I thought it sucked. The plot is padded and nonsensical and the characters are bland as bland can be. It had a good soundtrack, Unicron, and some good animation moments but aside form that it's terrible.

I think it's a movie that scarred more kids than you'd think. A few years ago I was reading story after story of people who were so excited to watch the movie, just to watch 95% of the G1 Transformers get killed off.
That, notwithstanding, I absolutely love this movie.... it's cheesy as hell, and not as good as I remember it.. but that's nostalgia for you! Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I loved Prowl. Then he got killed off in one of the opening scenes. Smoke pouring out his mouth and everything. Like, I can't think of anything like it as a kid. They wiped out damn near all the Transformers you watched on the show in the first half of the movie.
But damn, that Shuttle scene in the beginning, with Instruments of Destruction playing. Prowl, Brawn, Ratchet, Ironhide, all toast, with the greatest of ease. Poor Ironhide got the point blank shot from Megatron's cannon.
After being conditioned to see the bad guys never hit anyone with their weapons, it was so shocking. The Decepticons didn't f*** around that time. Megatron just yelled "DIE AUTOBOTS" and this time he was f***ing right.

I knew who characters were, had a couple random toys, but that was it. In fact, I remember tuning in to watch GI JOE as the credits for TF ran, and not caring that I missed TF at all. .....but I LOVED that movie. And it still holds up, after all these years.

I'm a fan of primarily the G1, Beast Wars, and comics in relation to Transformers. So, naturally, I saw it as a child and loved it, and I still love it and think overall it holds up. It's a fun, sci-fi romp and it doesn't try to be much more than that. Heck, it's more than what one would expect from an hour plus commercial for the new toys they were bringing out. And, there's just something so surreal about the entire experience, especially as a G1 Transformers fan of the show going into it.

I saw that movie as a kid myself. I liked it overall, but as a nine-year-old it was not easy to see what happened to Brawn, Ironhide, and several others I'd grown attached to from watching the tv show. After being conditioned to see the bad guys never hit anyone with their weapons, it was so shocking. Well, the bad guys and good guys did hit one another often in the animated series, but nobody ever died because of it that I remember. They always just acted hurt, and even if they lost consciousness it didn't mean they were dead; they just had to be taken back to base and repaired.

I think if I had ever seen the show before I watched the movie I would've never given the movie a chance. I went into the movie cold and found it to be this huge fascinating world with all kinds of shit happening every 2 seconds set to badass music. Super psyched I watched the show and I've disliked few things more than I disliked trying to watch that boring cartoon.

saw this in the theater... five times.
I remember at one viewing a little kid behind me burst out crying when Optimus died. His mom had to take him out of the theater.
I have an anniversary DVD. still love this movie.

Only slightly related, but from the comic "The Transformers: The Animated Movie", they did explain something that wasn't mentioned in the movie: where the other combiners were, as well as Omega Supreme.

I put it on all the time when I'm in a bum mood. even if it's just background noise when I'm doing something else, it still puts a smile on my face.
