Super Turbo's waltzing away with this, considering the mysterious benefactor.
I reckon 3rd Strike would've gotten more love had it been the CPSIII board, and not the considerably derided 'port of a port' that is the PSN/XBLA version.

I hope it's Skullgirls. If not that game, then Super Turbo. Smash Bros. tournament players are some of the most annoying and vile on the planet.

Well, the game I like the most isn't going to win, but earning that much money for cancer research makes me ok with it.

I'd rather see a Super Smash Bros. game win it, honestly.
Also, Fighting Is Magic was voluntarily taken out of the running by the dev team. They still encourage people to donate, but for another game instead.

I still can't take a game seriously as a competitive game when the userbase dictates that you disable roughly 75% of the game to make it viable. Not to mention that Melee had an incredibly poor reception the last time it was at Evo. Unsurprisingly, competitive Smash is incredibly boring to watch for everyone else but competitive Smash Bros. players. NO ITEMS, FINAL DESTINATION, NO FUN, FOX ONLY.

Super Turbo's waltzing away with this, considering the mysterious benefactor. I reckon 3rd Strike would've gotten more love had it been the CPSIII board, and not the considerably derided 'port of a port' that is the PSN/XBLA version. Most of it had to do with American 3S fans not caring about EVO due to the actual scene being small, the EVO runners not being fans of the game, and having their own stuff we wanna do. Games going to be there as a Side Tourney anyway and people are working on the idea of having our own Tournament of Legends. What point, the game had the options to turn stuff off, we used them. WE have fun with items off in tournaments, you have fun with them on, everyone won in Melee unlike Brawl. That's not even true, the day of Melee Finals at APEX it was catching tons of hype from everyone in the fighting game scene, twitter was ablaze with people being compeltely amazed at the skill and varieity seen on stream. From Top players like Wong to low level players people were amazed and wanted to see Melee at EVO. And I find it funny you bring up that bull s*** about Fox and Final Desitnation when neither were seen that much in tournament. Personally I really really really REALLY hate that money is going to be what decides what gets the 8th spot, it's extremely stupid and while three games I love are in the runnings, no matter what I'll still peeved at what won because it wasn't on the strength of the actual community that attends, but due to who had the deeper pockets. Seriously I love Skullgirls, I really do, but it had no right being on there due to the strength of the community, it's to weak right now and while getting into EVO would help it games like GGAC, ST, 3S, and VF should ahve gotten more looks due to having compartivley healthier scenes of people actually showing up to play.

If Skullgirls makes it, I really do hope all the people I see on Twitter actually do pick it up and stick with it, Lab Zero needs all the help they can get.

[/quote] Like I said, Smash is a party fighter. It's point is to have fun with friends fighting each other as Nintendo characters at like a party. The fun in the game comes from the chaos of four players on the screen tossing items every which way. I've watch several Smash tournament matches and they've been incredibly dull as far as I am concerned. Also need I remind you that there is, albeit very basic, actual platforming in Smash and other games of its ilk? They aren't straight up fighting games. The fact that you have to go out of your way and set up an extreme amount of handicaps to even make it resemble a straight up fighter should be reason enough why Smash shouldn't be at EVO. In my eyes EVO should be restricted to games that are straight up fighters out of the box. If you have to fiddle with the settings to make it a traditional fighting game, it isn't a traditional fighting game.

Then thank god you're not one to be makign that decision.
And so what if theres platforming in Smash? Theirs still footsies, mixup, spacing, and punishing. It's not a traditional faighting game but it's still a fighting game. Honest question, have you ever been to EVO and do you ever plan on attending? If you do you'll see a wide varieity of games getting tournaments and hype, they may not be on the main stage but that's not the point.
And on the fiddlign witht he game point, all the core parts of Smash are there. The game plays the same way with items as it does without. List all the options you really lose in Melee without items. And PS, for awhile we experiemnted with having most *Not all the items, certain ones are far to busted to be used like the fan* of the items on, but due to not being able to turn off exploding capsules it made matches far to random. Alot of this sounds like stuff from someone on the outside looking in and not someone that actually attends events or takes the time to try and understand whats going on.

You'd be exactly right I haven't been to EVO. You know how expensive it is to travel from OKC to Vegas, man? More than I can afford usually(can't justify flying to Vegas just for fighting game tournaments I wouldn't get far in(I'd make it through a few matches if I was lucky and avoided getting paired against the higher tiered people, but then again maybe not, I've seen people who looked really good at their games get eliminated early on without facing the "stars")). And yes I know all about the floor tournaments, but you can't exactly watch the floor tournaments all the time, unlike the main stage tournaments. Since I can't physically attend, watching the main state tournaments is the best I can do. And I don't want the boring ass Smash tournaments on the main stage. Keep the boring shit on the floor.
