No offense, but you're kinda glossing over said semi retired COO being a 13 time world champion. Yeah. And casual fans (the bulk of 'Mania buyers) likely still see HHH as a huge star and not "a semi-retired COO". Yeah no doubt. I'm more saying that it doesn't make any sense, after the last year and a half, for Punk to be a rung below anyone. He's held the top prize in the business longer than anyone since Hogan in the 80s. It's an old-school mentality, but it's also rooted in logic.

I keep reading that they never work good together, but how many times have they worked together? I only remember HIAC 2009, and that was a near squash match. Punk wasn't even close to being the level of a big star that he is now. So Taker likely didn't want to "give" him much in the match. Not to mention, that there was some heat between them at the time over a comment Punk made about WWE's dress code. Taker puts alot more time and preparation into his Wrestlemania matches (including rehearsals and planning everything out) than he would've for an ordinary 2009 PPV match against an upper midcard guy. You'd be surprised! (took place after Taker won the WHC; his tights are different than the previous picture)I think that's it. Their best match, in my view, was one of those Smackdown ones when Punk had long hair. Can't remember which of the two it was. But yeah, they never really clicked as well as people were hoping. If they do another match, the WM vibe and major prep work could indeed give them a chance to have that one magic match. Taker was beat to hell in 2009/2010 before he retired from regular travel. But, Punk said it best in his own DVD - there's only a few guys who he really gels with in the ring, and so far, Taker ain't one of them.

I think popular logic is "WTF is Punk going to do?" and "WTF is Taker going to do?" and the two've been sort of married and that's where we are.
