return?
I have been going to a woman for years that sadly died last year and she always did my taxes and I got a check. This year I find that if you go to get them done, they charge $30 to deposit it into your account and apparently there's no way around it.
Is this information accurate, and if so, how do they justify it?

Wait, do you get a check in the mail or do you have it direct deposited? The former should have no additional charge, the latter commonly involves a fee.

My brother had his done at H&R Block. i haven't done mine yet, but he told me he had two options:Direct deposit, or the gave it to him in the form of an H&R block card, and he said he was better off taking the direct deposit

I just went yesterday, and the way it was explained to me is that you get your return faster if you get it put on the card or do direct deposit but there are fees. You have the option to have a check mailed to you and I'm like 99.9% sure there's no fee for that, it just takes a little longer.

Ok cool, he acted as if they won't send out a check anymore, but he is probably in a rush too. That or they didn't make it a point to let him know that he could wait for a check, because they wouldn't make any extra money that way. So they charge an extra fee just so you can get it back early, to speed up the process or something. Should it cost almost as much to have it sent back fast as it does to get them done in the first place though?

They'll charge whatever you're willing to pay. Most people will pay it since they are getting back thousands... So$50-$70 dollars is a drop in the bucket to have money right away.

Oh. I never get back that much. In fact it was coming down to H@R Block or getting them done for free(albeit not by a professional) but I think it will be ok doing it for free

You can always try Tax Act online or something if you're sure you're not getting that much back.

Cool. They have a free service that my brother used here, but I have a friend that used to go to someone and he NEVER got money back until he used the woman I did

That's pretty cool. I've never personally used or know anyone that used H&R Block.
I had mine done about a week ago, so I'm not really any help with the mainstream stuff. All I know is to keep records of everything, and have it handy.

You can do Turbo Tax online for free. Yeah I was gonna say this. If you can do the 1040EZ you can do it online for free, file for free, get direct deposit for free. The only thing they charge is to file state taxes (and its like $30) but federal is totally free, super easy to use, and they make sure you don't miss any credits you're eligible for.

Don't worry about why the taxes are there, just make sure you pay them

They charge you because they are doing the work of figuring out your taxes. H&R Block is a business, and it's the cost of what they do.

Something sounds fishy. I have never heard of a charge for depositing a refund check unless we are talking about a check cashing place. Also I heard that the government is phasing out checks all together and going the route of prepaid credit cards or direct deposit.
On a side note, I recommend avoiding HR Block and other tax companies and finding a qualified CPA, sure they charge a bit more in the short term, but the refunds they can find are more benifical in the long run.

I think what's happened is just a free for getting the money back faster. it's an H&R Block fee, not a government one. I've been offered this before too and just waited the extra week or two to get the cheque in full
Also, make sure H Block does your taxes, R Block is an idiot.
