Scrapping a script involving Darkseid and a cosmic threat was actually a smart move since Avengers 2 has Thanos as a villain. The non-comic saavy movie watcher would just see JLA as a rip-off at that point.

WB should abandon the entire JLA project and just create a new film series called "The Batman Chronicles". Every few years, a new movie is released with a new story, different villain, different director and a different actor taking over after three or four movies. If it works for James Bond, it can work for Batman, since he's clearly the only DC superhero people really want to see.

Well technically the X-Men were a rip-off of the Doom Patrol who were a rip-off of the Fantastic Four who were a rip-off of the Justice League.

Green Lantern could've done better if the movie weren't full of blatant producer intrusion and word of mouth hadn't killed it before it even got out. it's not the characters that are the problem, it's WB not really having a good plan for how the movies should be or how to market them thats the problem. their superhero cartoons are a runaway success, which is an area that until recently Marvel always had trouble with (and even when they do find success the show gets cancelled before it can have a proper ending).

Yeah, I knew that, I just like my story of them all being rip-offs of one another better.

The original post mentions "studio executive will." Which is sadly something that's plaguing the comics side of things - editorial seems to be running the show and creative (with the exception of a scant few higher-up/big name folks) is moreorless bound to obeying their commands. A Justice League movie will not stink because they're not doing it the Marvel way (buncha solo movies, then 1 big team-up movie) - it will stink because DC and WB execs have their collective heads up their collective ass. Cast Dave Chappelle as Aquaman or no buys! God I miss Dave Chappelle.

It's more than that, dude. Mongul was created by Jim Starlin. The man who made Thanos a big deal at Marvel. So technically, Jim Starlin ripped off himself.

They should break the fourth wall and make a JLA movie about the problems associated with making a JLA movie, featuring WB executives for example being completely bewildered when people explain to them why it won't work as well as the Avengers, and the reasons why. It will be like "The Player", but with superheroes. For inspiration, they can use Kevin Smith's experiences trying to deal with Jon Peters on Superman Lives.

What's wrong with using Brandon Routh, Christian Bale and Ryan Reynolds?

What's wrong with using Brandon Routh, Christian Bale and Ryan Reynolds? Christian Bale is probably done with the role and I remember him talking about how uncomfortable the suit was. Ryan Reynolds probably doesn't want anything to do with Green Lantern after that. Haven't seen Superman Returns so can't comment on Brandon Routh. Also to Citizen Snips, I have a feeling that the non-comic movie watchers will still think JLA is a rip-off no matter what lol.

What's wrong with using Brandon Routh, Christian Bale and Ryan Reynolds? I think Bale would do it if Nolan was directing - he's said that's the only way he'd ever play Batman again. No idea about Routh; I'd like to think he'd be fine with coming back but no idea if he or WB would want to do a reprise of SUPERMAN RETURNS. But they've got Henry Cavill taking over with MAN OF STEEL anyway so he's their guy now. And.......I'm sorry, Ryan Reynolds? Who'd he play? *Wikis this....* Hal Jordan? A GREEN LANTERN movie?! Whoa. Either I completely missed this, or blocked it from memory.....
