First albums are usually the building blocks of someone career, the second album is usually when the artist is the most hungry for success. So let's list our top 3 sophomore albums.
1. Low end theory - A Tribe Called Quest 2. Late Registration - Kanye West 3. Resurrection - Common
Notable mentions to Mm...food

Hard to limit it to 3
Black Sabbath "Paranoid" Bob Dylan "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" The Jimi Hendrix Experience "Axis: Bold As Love"
HM: Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, Mika "The Boy Who Knew Too Much", Lady Gaga "Born This Way", Talking Heads "More Songs About Buildings and Food", Daft Punk "Discovery", Nirvana "Nevermind", Metallica "Ride The Lightning", Queen: "Queen II" really a lot of great sophomore albums.

Yup, I tend to find a artist best work from their second studio album, it was hard to choose 3, but those 3 albums pretty much consumed my childhood.

Queen - Queen II (My 2nd favorite Queen album after the follow-up album, Sheer Heart Attack) Nirvana - Nevermind (Yeah, it's their most popular album with all the hits, but it contains most of my favorite Nirvana songs, and I just love the sound that they went for) Alice In Chains - Dirt (Like Nevermind, it contains most of my favorite AIC songs)

Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Erasure - The Circus Now That's What I Call Music 2 (hey, it has Radio GaGa, Relax, 99 Red Balloons and many other classics!) If I can't have Now 2, then I'll go with The Bends.

Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager Ice Cube - Death Certificate Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
EDIT: As far as Cube goes, I know he already had an NWA album under his belt, but I'm going off his solo stuff. If that doesn't count, I substitute "The Fury of the Aquabats!" by The Aquabats!

There are others I could pick, but I'm gonna highlight some that no one else here has mentioned
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless The Verve - A Northern Soul (anyone who says Urban Hymns was better hasn't heard this/is wrong) Dinosaur Jr - You're Living All Over Me

I guess this is very geared toward what I like, but:
Joanna Newsom - Ys Weezer - Pinkerton
Edit: I had Offspring Smash as the third but seems it was their third album. I'm not sure what else to pick.
