musicians aren't friends with each other off stage?
A few examples:
- Quite famously (or at least rumored) the Myth Busters aren't very friendly toward each other in real life - Penn and Teller have been open about their relationship being a business relationship and they aren't really very good friends off stage - Recently learned from Eddie Trunk that none of the members of Poison or Motley Crue travel together/seem to be friends at all.
The question is, does this bother you?
For some reason it does kind of bother me. I know business is business, and of course I'm not best of friends with everyone I work with, but for some reason knowing Penn and Teller's families don't spend Xmas together kind of bums me out.

I think the Penn and Teller thing is myth they play up. Knowing how brash and outspoken Penn is, if he loathed his partner, money wouldn't get him to shut up. Rather, I think it's just an urban legend they have fun with to ham up the faux-cruelty of their act.

Nah. As I said in a recent thread about Penn and Teller, Penn has said that's one of the reasons they work together so well professionally. If they're not together 24/7 then they're not as likely to piss each other off. Fleetwood Mac have been bickering since the "classic line-up" (which pisses me off as Peter Green is not part of that) got together and "Rumours" is considered one of the best albums ever, even though at the time it was recorded, they were at their most bitchy. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have had many arguments over the years but they're still together. As long as their product doesn't suffer, then I don't care. It's unfortunate that they don't like each other out of work but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of them.

A little. It depends really, I think because of the movie Help!, people pictured the Beatles living together-same with the Monkees, but it kinda varies for me. Like I'm not bothered that a band like say Poison doesn't hang out because I never really pictured that anyway, but I would have been let down if the Spice Girls hadn't hung out back in the day

Nope; I never understand why normal people are expected to be buddy buddy with co-workers either. It's a job. You're bound to be friends with some; but there's no obligation of friendship.

Um, no. Why would I give a f***? I don't know these people.
Maybe if they were antagonistic to the point that it effected the quality of their work, but otherwise no.

No.
I don't live in a delusional fantasy world where everyone I don't hate loves each other and has exactly the same opinions.

Not really. I can understand if you're doing a show or performance with someone a lot that being with them all the time can get grating.

- Quite famously (or at least rumored) the Myth Busters Apparently, they stated that they do respect each-other and enjoy working together, it's just that they don't hang out. Heck, apparently Jamie actually seeked out Adam because he liked his work and felt he was a better showman than himself, so there must be some mutual admiration. Anyway, it doesn't really bother me as long as they're being professional about it.

Penn and Teller are friends, they just don't share a whole lot of common interests outside of their work, so they don't hang out.
As for Adam and Jamie, they are friends, seemingly, but Jamie is still his boss and has been for years, so it's still a work relationship.

It really, really depends, for me, on medium and the way it is.
Take for example, a band like The Faces. Their stage act was partly about the funtime shenanigans onstage, the fact that the band felt like your drinking buddies. Finding out they all hated each other would have been pretty sucky because it meant all of that stuff onstage was just an act and you weren't ever really a part of something special. Pink Floyd, however, have such moody music, no stage interaction, that it doesn't really matter if they all hate each other.

Yeah, it's a lot like Lamb Of God's "Killadelphia" DVD.... there's a part where Randy is so drunk, he gets into an actual physical fight with Mark Morton (I believe)... you watch it and think, "Damn, they're gonna break up soon, they can't stand each other!" But then they said, "Hey, we're brothers... we're stuck with each other on tour for 24/7, sometimes things like this happen and instead of hiding it.. we're gonna show it."
Point is, you see or read something that looks like things aren't all rosey and assume the worst. Penn and Teller don't hate each other, they love working together... just, they've had such a long career together BECAUSE they only get together to discuss business. When they're working, you know they joke around, catch each other up on what they're up to, how their families are doing, go out together and blow off steam... but as soon as the production wraps up, they shake hands.. go their separate ways and say, "See you on the next project."
You assume it means they're just together because they have to be, it's the only way they make money is together. But really, they like each other, they ARE friends, just not the kind of friends that keep constant tabs on each other through texting, phone calls, and "hanging out."

Considering how much time some of these guys have to spend being around each other as part of their job, it doesn't surprise me at all that they wouldn't be raring to hang out outside of it.

Motley Crue is very well known for not getting along, reading Nikki's books you get that vibe as well. It doesn't really bother me though people are people and are going to pick who they want to hang out with

I worked with a complete and utter bitch for a year that drove me insane. But together we absolutely rocked as a team and really did some cool stuff, it doesn't matter about your opinion on them it matters what they bring to the table.

For athletes, I don't think Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen hanged out much off the court. I don't think they had any issues either, Pippen being fine with his role, I remember Jackson said he was happy that Pippen said in front of the team that this was Jordan's team. I know that Jordan didn't want Pippen drafted, he wanted a UNC player. I think most of his close friends were his rivals like Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley. In Ewing's case, they became friends after being on the 1984 Olympic Team.

I don't think anyone liked Jordan because Jordan is an ass to everyone. Jordan learned so much from Dean Smith about basketball but turned a deaf ear when it came to having class and being a gentlemen.
I know Frankie Goes To Hollywood were at each others throats and the eventually split up because of it.
