I think enjoying this game requires two things:
1. Accepting that it isn't like the other Zeldas
2. Learning how to play it right.
There's definitely a barrier to entry, but once you overcome it I think it's a fantastic game. It's one of my favorites in the series because of how different it is from the other games.

I don't like this game, I do like that Nintendo made this for 404 errors on their website:

See I loved it, but I actually got to play it when it first came out. This zelda actually I only finished about a year or so ago. That damn final temple and multi level bridge.

I really don't like it any better or worse than the original, which itself I've always considered to be somewhat overrated. That said, I don't care for the RPG elements and the music sucked. Otherwise, it's a decent game.

This is my favorite Zelda. I never realized it was considered so hard. I think I beat it but my older sister beat it and I just remembered what she did.

I like it alright, but it is basically more like current Castlevania games than a Zelda game, so take that for what you will.

It's one of my favorite NES games, and in my top five of Zelda games.

I love this game, it's much different than The Legend of Zelda, but I don't think that's a bad thing.
Also it introduced a number of things of semi importance to the series.
The Triforce of Courage, (which only made sense that there would be a third part of an item called the TRIforce), The down and up thrust, and the triforce mark on the back of links hand,

worst Zelda game of all time, easily. Can't stand it at all. Even worse than the CD-I games, especially Zelda's Adventure? Harsh.

Also "I am Error" not being an error... while the name Bagu being an error was always funny to me

I've not played much of it, but it's alright. Doesn't really feel like that much of an oddball to me though - compared to the other 2D games, certainly, but I do think it still feels rather like the 3D games. Only an in retrospect thing, but still.

I borrowed it from my brother last year, mainly to show my Zelda-loving daughter what it was about.
I still suck at it. I can't get that jump down right.

I loved it. It might have helped that I played it before the original (they were released pretty close to each other), so I did not have expectations to disabuse first.
