I'm trying to say these things in the nicest way possible, but it's most likely not going to happen. But I think I've hinted that. If you haven't even seen his face (that's not an image). It can't be THAT serious. And there is 99% chance the person you have been speaking with isnt who you think you have been speaking with....He is either bored orguilty of living the lie.

I think some of you guys are being a bit harsh.
as for OP, a few things: that sounds really rough, but at the same time I say just give him a bit of space and see where it goes. and just remember if it doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world.
also, I didn't know until just now you were a woman... must've been the AJ sig.

Yeah my original thought too. If its a legitimate love one would think you'd have tried to move a little faster in three years. I kept hearing you were "planning" on meeting and "planning" on skyping. Three years is a long time especially this day and age to not have at least spoken on the phone. You're 18 and a lot of people probably sound harsh with their advice but the majority of it is pretty sound advice and most likely from people with deeper relationship experience. Take it for the value for which it's given. You'll find another love, probably several and they'll all seem like "the one"

"Hi, I'm a catfish. You may remember me from the movie 'Catfish.' What's that? There weren't any catfish in that movie? Oh, well uh my cousin was on an episode of 'Hillbilly Handfishin' once. You might recognize me from that. I mean, we all pretty much look the same. Why am I in this thread? I don't know, I guess I got lost on my way to the thread about the Pope resigning. I was going to say I hope the next Pope decides to ban eating fish on Good Fridays. Um, carry on."

Well ,Heartbreaker, first, ignore these guys,A LOT of thenalready said catfishing
Wether it was or not,it was a serious relation to you.And i have been in the same boat,i did meet my long distance girlfriend tough. She was (still is)the ONLY person i would trust everything to.We still are best friends and have lots of fun talking trough MSN(I can't even visit her anymore because i moved to the other side of the world).
Anyway, believe me,you will get over it.And you will also learn that long distance relations are A BIG BIG BIG pain in the ass.Lots of the times it won't work out and happens what happened to you two.
But you can be strong, you will get over it,believe me.When she broke up with me i felt like dying but after a few weeks i was ready to go.

You're eighteen. Your life has just barely started. Get back to me when your thirty-six and still have the same problem. To be honest, I'd wager by the time you are twenty-five you'd not even be interested in the same guys you are now and laugh at how seriously you took things as a kid.

Internets relationships are not real. Don't get me wrong, a relationship can start online, but eventually you have to physically have some contact with the person for the relationship to be real. Otherwise it's just a pretend back and forth over impersonal emails. He's your boyfriend, but you don't know his phone number or address? I am sorry, but he was never your boyfriend, he was a dude you emailed. You need a better grasp on reality. I am not trying to be insensitive, but damn. You can't get this bent out of shape over a relationship that's entirely online. He's basically a penpal to you. Yup. You're probably dodging a bullet if this thing ends. Online relationships usually end much nastier.

While I tentatively agree that, being eighteen, this will barely qualify as a speed bump in the long term, I also know it hurts all the same. Here's something to read that might help.[/spoiler] A bit. All that being said - The fact that he says "I know you'll make something of your life", as gentle and kind as it sounds, reveals a lot about the way he thinks of you. Really? As if your life doesn't already amount to something?
