You know what? If Matt had delivered promos like that during his heel turn a few years ago his career would be completely different. He had one really good promo explaining the turn (I was in the audience for that one), got a couple of big wins on Jeff (including WM), and teased a possible feud with John Cena when he got drafted to Raw. If he did a promo or two like that they might have let him have a short feud with Cena (relying on Cena to bring the star power and a fresh and new feud as the cherry on top).

Instead, they turned him into a poor man's Iron Mike Sharpe, when Iron Mike Sharpe already was a poor man's Iron Mike Sharpe.

I'm not much of a writer, and I don't usually throw my thoughts out there for everyone to see. I've been a part of Ring of Honor for almost 10 years - and with this upcoming weekend being as huge as it is, I felt compelled to write a little bit about how I'm feeling going into Baltimore.

No One Fights Like Family

On Saturday night at 5pm EST, Ring of Honor presents "Best In The World" via worldwide pay-per-view. The main event of BITW has the ROH World Championship on the line, as champion Jay Briscoe defends against his younger brother, Mark Briscoe. It's a match that I'm very much looking forward to, but maybe not for the same reasons as most people.

I am the oldest of five children in my family, all of us boys. Growing up, the five of us were always competing in one way or another - who can run the fastest, who brought home the best report card, wrestling matches on my parents' bed, etc. Just about everything was a competition.

Being the oldest brother, I always had an advantage because I was the biggest at any given time. Wrestling matches weren't even close. Running always went my way because I had a bigger step. Report cards always came home with me in the lead, because I had a natural talent in math and science. I won a whole lot more than I lost - but that's not how I hoped it would go.

Winning is fun. It's a hell of a lot better than losing. If you had a choice, of course you'd prefer to win instead of lose. But as the oldest of five brothers, part of me was always rooting for my younger brothers to take over. Learn from defeats and turn it into victory. Put me in my place. I wasn't going to lay down and let them win, but I would be really happy when they did. Hoping that they grow and learn, and be the best they can be.

As an older brother, I feel that I can relate to how Jay Briscoe is feeling going into his title defense this Saturday. On one hand, he wants to continue to be the ROH World Champion. To continue to be the best. To remain on top. But I think there may be a part of Jay that is actually rooting for his younger brother to defeat him. Hoping that Mark earns his spot atop the sport. To win a championship that he knows that Mark deserves to win. There's no way Jay is laying down, he's going to give Mark the fight of his life... and deep-down hoping that Mark can pull it out.

I can't wait until Saturday at "Best In The World". Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe. Older brother vs younger brother. The ROH World Championship on the line. So many little stories and details ready to play themselves out. I'll be in the ring, with the best seat in the house, ready to raise the hand of the winner. May the best brother win.

Episode 3
1. Roderick Strong beat Adam Cole by disqualification. Cole DQ'd for using chain given to him by Steve Corino
2. Jay Briscoe (c) beat Matt Hardy (w/Steve Corino) to retain the ROH World Championship. Post match S.C.U.M. beat down the Briscoe Brothers as well as Team ROH when they tried to come to their aid. Hardy tried to break Jay's arm with a steel chair.

Episode 4
1. The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) beat Mike Sydal & ??
2. Team ROH (BJ Whitmer, Jay Lethal, Michael Elgin & Kevin Steen) beat S.C.U.M. (Jimmy Jacobs, Rhett Titus, Cliff Compton & Rhino w/Steve Corino) in Steel Cage Warfare. Match was tables, chairs and fireballs used, as well as Matt Hardy jumping Steen when he entered the match. Steen won the match for ROH after last eliminating Jacobs with help from Nigel McGuinness. Post match McGuinness ordered S.C.U.M. to leave the building, with Jacobs leaving on his own while Corino and Hardy having to be removed by security

RING OF HONOR CEASING LIVE iPPVS

After the issues with their most recent iPPV event over the weekend, Ring of Honor has made the decision to discontinue all iPPV broadcasts live and will instead present them as VOD offerings the day after the live event.

The official statement from ROH issued to PWInsider.com reads as follows:

This past weekend at "Best in the World" in Baltimore, MD , Ring of Honor proved once again from top to bottom why our talent is truly the best in wrestling today. Unfortunately, there were some issues with the live iPPV stream that wound up distracting from the energy and action in ring. For this, we sincerely apologize to all fans that encountered problems.

Because of how much we value the support of our fans, and understand the imperfections of the live streaming technology, "Best in the World" will be the last iPPV stream that we will be broadcasting live. All future main event shows will now be offered as a Video On Demand, which will allow Ring of Honor to present a flawless show and truly depict the excellence of our product.

From now on, fans can watch ROH Wrestling on TV, VOD, or DVD, however there is still nothing like seeing Ring of Honor in person. We thank you for your continued support and are excited to be moving forward.

THE WOLVES & REDRAGON RIVALRY CONTINUES IN MILWAUKEE!
Fish and Richards, Edwards and O'Reilly: one-on-one...



The rivalry between The American Wolves and reDRagon has been raging in one form or another since Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards reunited at “Final Battle 2012” to defeat Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish. Since that December night, the two teams have met on several occasions but the most notable were certainly in New York City when, first at “Supercard of Honor VII”, reDRagon defeated The Wolves to successfully retain the World Tag Team Titles and then during the “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV Tapings, Fish defeated Edwards while O'Reilly lost to Richards. Kyle's loss also saw him suffer a serious arm injury that forced the tag team champions to miss the “Border Wars 2013” weekend in Toronto.

As Eddie & Davey have rebounded from their tag title loss (their 2nd of 2013) with victories over RD Evans & QT Marshall, S.C.U.M, and Adrenaline RUSH so to have Fish & O'Reilly continued their winning ways with a tag title victory over The Briscoes, singles victories in San Antonio, and a successful title defense at “Best in the World 2013” over both S.C.U.M and C&C Wrestle Factory. Still, with the history Eddie & Davey have with Kyle & Bobby the threat of The Wolves is always looming over reDRagon's shoulder...

“We beat Eddie and Davey to earn our title shot.” said Kyle to ROHWrestling.com, “We then beat them at Supercard when the eyes of the entire wrestling world were on New York City. Bobby beat Eddie straight-up and Davey may have beat me, but he had to maliciously injure me, put me on the shelf for a month, in order to do it. We have dominated the tag team division here while the two of you have lost in both of your title chances this year. If you ask me, The American Wolves do not deserve another title shot until they prove themselves deserving.”

Based on Kyle's thoughts there he will likely be relieved to find out he & Bobby Fish will NOT have to defend the World Tag Team Titles against The Wolves when Ring of Honor returns to Milwaukee on July 12th. Just because they don't have to defend the belts against the Wolves though does not mean that reDRagon will not have to deal with Davey and Eddie that night.

In fact, the World Tag Team Champions will have to stand on their own because that Friday night it will be Kyle O'Reilly versus Eddie Edwards while Bobby Fish goes one-on-one with Davey Richards for the very first time! Can Kyle do something he has never done and beat Eddie? Will Fish make it 2-for-2 by defeating Richards? Or will The Wolves dominate the night and prove they deserve another shot at tag team glory? MAJOR BRISCOE NEWS!

{Spoiler}Last weekend in Baltimore was a physically brutal one for both World Champion Jay Briscoe and his “Best in the World 2013” challenger Mark Briscoe. The brothers tore into one another in one of the more physical championship battles and it ultimately required Jay to utilize multiple Jay Drillers in order to put his brother down for the three count. Unfortunately, as a result of those maneuvers and the general punishment suffered in the bout, Mark Briscoe was forced out of his spot in the Steel Cage Warfare bout that went down during the following day's “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV Tapings.

As for Jay, the day of those tapings he defended his title once again, this time against S.C.U.M's Matt Hardy and although he was victorious in the bout, following the match the champion was viciously assaulted with a steel chair by S.C.U.M and left laying.

Unfortunately, ROHWrestling.com has since learned that, as a result of the injuries sustained during “Best in the World” weekend, both Jay and Mark will be out of action indefinitely. Mark suffered severe head trauma as a result of the bout with his brother while Jay apparently has a fractured shoulder and torn rotator cuff coming from the assault at the hands of S.C.U.M. At this point it is unknown how long Jay and Mark will be out of action but we will stay on top of the story to provide you with details, as they are made available to us.

ROHWrestling.com also contacted Match Maker Nigel McGuinness for an update on how this would affect the championship held by Jay Briscoe and he informed us that there will be an announcement made soon regarding the status of the ROH World Title. Nigel did inform us that he intended to announce this week that Michael Elgin would receive his championship opportunity on August 3rd in Toronto but now that is in question. ROHWrestling.com has heard rumors that with Elgin scheduled to be the next man in line for a shot, he may be awarded the World Title due to forfeit.

All of the events that led to this will be seen on “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV broadcasts over the course of the next several weeks or you will be able to see it all unfold very shortly courtesy of the Early Bird TV options here on ROHWrestling.com.

HONOR LIVES IN DEARBORN!
Four of ROH's best are set to do battle....



On the heels of a landscape changing weekend in Baltimore, Ring of Honor heads out for a Triple Shot weekend starting in Chicago on July 11th, then heading to Milwaukee on July 12th, and wrapping up on July 13th in Dearborn! Yesterday it was announced that The American Wolves would go into singles action against reDRagon in Milwaukee and today ROHWrestling.com has learned that Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards will be in tag team action in Dearborn!

Their opponents that night in the Great Lakes State? The unusual pairing of “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin and Jay Lethal!

“Elgin and Lethal showed some great promise as a team back in Toronto.” said Nigel McGuinness to ROHWrestling.com, “And in light of recent events with Jay and Mark Briscoe, we wanted to make sure that the great fans in Michigan get to see the absolute best wrestlers in the absolute best matches and what better way than by doing what Ring of Honor does better than anyone else...tag team wrestling!”

The Wolves, former tag team champions, are no doubt one of the elite teams in all of tag team wrestling while Elgin (the current #1 contender) and Lethal can both lay claim to the same in the field of singles competition. There is history between all four men: Elgin has gone to war with both Davey and Eddie individually as well as in tag team battles while Lethal and Richards engaged in some classic battles in 2012 but Jay has yet to clash with Eddie inside the ROH ring.

The tag team advantage obviously lies in the Wolves camp but with two men as talented as Jay Lethal & Michael Elgin, if they stay on the same page then they will no doubt make The Wolves fight every single step of the way. Dearborn! July 13th! The American Wolves versus Jay Lethal & Michael Elgin!
