*Sigh* That's really annoying! Super hero characters like Deadpool, Punisher, Cable, and even Wolverine himself should all probably be rated R characters. Sometimes it feels like Hollywood knows people love super hero movies, that a good number of super heroes are grim and gritty, yet still believes all super heroes should be for little dumb kids and be like Adam West Batman. (Not that Adam West Batman is dumb, but trying to make violent characters like Deadpool or the Authority fit that mold is just stupid and ludicrous.) It's just a corporate thing. They see Deadpool as a costume, and they see the costume as toy sales. I honestly think they could make Deadpool PG-13 by doing clever stuff to censor the violence and language, and they could do it all in a completely tongue-in-cheek way, but they shouldn't have to. Yeah, they could do it totally in tongue in cheek/fourth wall breaking style... and since it's Deadpool it would completely fit the source material. Green Lantern starring Jack Black. At least the film we got somewhat resembled a comic movie, this abomination was meant to be a comedy utilizing Black's humor. Oh God, why did you remind me of this... Jack Black randomly finding the ring that was meant for Hal Jordan and getting into wacky antics! This was the second one I thought of... especially as there was talk taht Marvel is pressuring him to get off his ass and make it already... though from my understanding one of the main sticking points was they want Pym and Wright wants to use Lang. The first I thought of was of course Giant Metal Spider Superman.

And how about that She-Hulk movie? I'm thinking maybe it's time for my own home grown movie studio, BanjCo Enterprises to take the helm of that one. But first, we'll give that Squirrel Girl movie a shot.

Wasn't there a Sandman movie that was rumored at some point? It was then Jon Peters got involved and then it went into development hell. Wasn't there a script floating around that absolutely terrified Neil Gaiman and that helped lead to its never being made as well?

The two biggest I know of are X-Men Origins: Magneto and Deadpool. Both were rumored to be on the horizon right about when X-Men Origins: Wolverine came out, but nothing has come of either one. The Magneto film evolved into First Class, but they kept a ton of the ideas for Magneto in the film. Deadpool can't get made because, according to Ryan Reynolds and the scriptwriters, Fox is scared to take a chance on the film because they're stuck in the mindset that Deadpool is a superhero and needs to be PG-13, and the script is a hard R. if that's true then the braintrust at Fox are idiots. eh can't say I'm surprised, IMO everyone at that level's an idiot.

Wasn't there a Sandman movie that was rumored at some point? yes. and Neil Gaiman called it the worst script for anything he'd ever written. it was produced by John Peters who once again insisted on a scene where Morpheus punches out a giant spider. he thought it was a superhero comic.

Just to elaborate on Superman movie stuff, between Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Superman Returns there were about a dozen different versions of a new Superman movie in various stages of pre-production at various different times. This includes everything from a fifth Christopher Reeves movie to Batman vs. Superman to the infamous Kevin Smith "giant robot spider" movie to the JJ Abrams movie.
I remember a few years back DC was looking into making Doom Patrol and Deadman movies. It looks like the Doom Patrol movie is dead, but Deadman will supposedly be showing up in Guillermo Del Toro proposed "Justice League Dark" movie. It's kinda a shame he's not gonna get his own movie though, you get rid of Deadman's (incredibly outdated) costume and what you're left with is a really good, really interesting, friendly ghost story that I think would translate really well into live action.
Before the Tim Story directed Fantastic Four movies came out there was a lot of talk about a period piece Fantastic Four movie set in the 1960's. Not sure if it would've been any better then what we got but it definitely would've been something different.
There were a few attempts at a Watchmen movie before the one we got. Most attempted to completely eliminate the 80's setting and have it set during the modern day (anyway from the early 90's to 2000 depending on what script you get). Atleast one version included time travel.
Then we have Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman. While claiming he wouldn't consider casting the main part until he finished his first draft, he apparently proposed the part to someone (I think Eliza Dushku) on a panel they were on together at a con. Sandra Bullock supposedly also said she would do it as long as Wonder Woman didn't wear her traditional costume. It got abandoned after Whedon flat out said he just couldn't write a script he felt was any good.
There was also David Goyer's Flash movie, which I don't know much about other then he left after disagreements with the studio.

At one point in the 90's there was a planned Venom movie that planned to have nothing to do with Spider-man.

Wasn't there a Sandman movie that was rumored at some point? Back when the first Transformers movie came out, Shia LeBeouf wanted to do Death: The High Cost of Living, directed by Gaiman. I remember Gaiman mentioning in some later interview that while Shia was getting to old to play the part of Sexton, he was still interested in producing the movie.

Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max - The Green Arrow is thrown into prison and has to fight his way out. The film would have featured several characters that had a following, but not quite popular enough to have their own movie.
I also seem to recall that that there were plans at one point to make movies based on both Deathlock and Namor. I don't know much about them though. One more thing: What's the deal with Jon Peters and giant spiders? That seems to be a running theme in this thread.

The crow remake has been in limbo for a while, trading directors and stars. Once even Bradley Cooper was rumored. I am not totally against this movie and think Joseph Gordon-Levit would be good.

I love hearing Kevin Smith talk about his experience working with Jon Peters. You can find videos of it on youtube. The three conditions he made Smith agree to when writing the Superman were never to show supes flying, never show him in his costume because it was "too faggy", and he had to have a fight scene with a giant spider. Also their was a scene were Brainiac was exploring the Fortress of Solitude that Peters though was boring so he told him to write Brainiac fighting Polar Bears into it. He sounds like a complete madman. I always thought the spiders thing was exaggerated by Smith.

I always thought the Iron Fist movie (summer, 2008) had the potential to be really cool. Everyone attached to it seemed stoked, and the beauty of him being a largely vaguely familiar character had great potential to (re-)introduce him to movie-goers.

What was the biggest complaint about Superman Returns? What was the biggest complaint about the original Christopher Reeves Superman movies? Lack of action (even the big fight between Superman and Zod in II always felt like everybody was holding back). Jon Peters tried to give us an action packed Superman movie. Granted, a lot of his other suggestions were kinda stupid, but atleast his movie wouldn't have been boring.

The Catwoman movie that was supposed to be a spinoff of the Burton films.
Eventually it mutated beyond recognition and became the Halle Berry abomination.
