Say you keep hearing about a certain company and decide to try it out a few times only to find disappointment each time.

Is it wrong of me to assume that this may be a thinly-veiled "I don't get CHIKARA" thread?

Is it wrong of me to assume that this may be a thinly-veiled "I don't get CHIKARA" thread? I'm not sure if that was the intention but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the most common answer.

I think most people "get" CHIKARA it's just a lot of people aren't into it.
I personally don't understand the SHIMMER or other Women's Promotions. It seems to be a product geared towards women (Our women kick ass!) yet the crowd is always 50-80 weird looking (Dare I say creepy?) middle aged men. No offense to any SHIMMER/Women fans with that comment I'm just commenting on the people who mainly fill the seats at the shows.
As for CHIKARA, I don't particularly find it that funny although the matches are usually good and quality. I think if CHIKARA wants to do the whole "funny" thing they should rip off of DDT who are hilarious with what they do.

Any deathmatch promotion. I think its great to get creative and have a good hardcore brawl to end a big feud. But when you have a bunch of matches on a card that are just gross I can't even watch. Sometimes it does not even feel like they know how to wrestle. They just hit each other with a million different things and look bloody gross at the end. Its why I can't get into CZW.

I don't get ROH of today. It's almost like a parody of the ROH from better days. Last 2-3 years have been brutal IMO.

Current ROH and DGUSA/Evolve.
Splitting Gabe and ROH was just a bad idea for both sides.

CZW actually is way different today than it's roots. They still have their big death match events each year, but it's far from the norm. Some of the best young technical wrestlers appear for CZW without spilling a drop of blood.

My answer was Chikara until I went to one of their shows. They made a die-hard fan that night.
I guess my answer(s) would be current ROH or CZW.

That guy clearly hasn't ever watched SHIMMER. It's 250 people, a lot of women, a lot of great guys who all respect the product, have fun, and some of them have become good friends with each other. It's a community. Though there are some bad eggs in there, including "Cheesecake Man", but they're very much the minority. My personal answer is NOAH. Their days are clearly way past them. BURNING saw the light, hopefully several others will prompt either a sale, or someone like All Japan swallowing the company up. Then again, not many are exactly hyping them up these days.

I think they're just super meta and ironic.

I've seen SHIMMER before, I can't comment on how the community is since I've never been live but it's one of those shows where there's a handful of women and a lot more men. I actually did a search before I made this post for SHIMMER and saw a commercial for their shows that happened in April and I counted three women in the audience during the music video. Nothing wrong with it being a majority of men but this is a "I don't get it" thread and I don't "get" SHIMMER or why men outnumber the women at these shows. Definitely didn't mean to offend anyone though.

Some of the best young technical wrestlers appear for CZW without spilling a drop of blood. You are probably right. I have heard a lot of things like that from them recently. I may try and check some more resent shows out. I know I could never be a big fan because of the deathmatches. But I am always willing to give companies a shot.

Nothing wrong with it being a majority of men but this is a "I don't get it" thread and I don't "get" SHIMMER or why men outnumber the women at these shows. I mean, the answer is probably because men are the wrestling fans, because most wrestling organizations have, for like a hundred years, gone out of their way to appeal specifically and directly to men. If SHIMMER is going to appeal to women, it's going to have to happen really slowly, with guys bringing their daughters and female partners. I actually think the attitude of "guys who go to these shows must be creeps!!" probably just adds to that social segregation. Though, of course, I haven't been to a SHIMMER show, so maybe there is a terrible creep vibe.

So....who is Cheesecake Man? With Shimmer, I haven't watched in awhile, but it was being able to see so many different and talented female wrestlers simply based on how most promotions are. They generally have men wrestle, and then they have a small roster of female wrestlers. So with Shimmer, you get to see the best from all around (though it seems they book way too many people at times).
