Wonder if there's any Saw fans around here, with the big number of Horror fans I've seen around here. It's among my favorite Horror series and I think it's unfair it gets a lot of hate. I saw every sequel in theaters when they started coming out and it was fun piecing things together when new backstory was revealed in the sequels and then to go back and rewatch the series knowing how it all ties together. I wouldn't mind if we got a new sequel since with the way the seventh one ended there's still room for more.
As for how I rank the series in my order of preference (post your ranking if you'd like), it goes for me:
Saw II Saw Saw VI Saw V Saw IV Saw VII Saw III
I'm really partial to the second one in particular, as I love the main game in the house and the scenes between Eric and Jigsaw, and the ending twist is great. Though I do really like the series as a whole.

I absolutely loved every single one of them. The end of 5 provided the most exciting moment, I thought it was the greatest.

One of my favourite horror series of all time I just hate how it gets this stupid rep about it being nothing but torcher porn when it does something alot if not every other horror series fails to do and thats craft a very complex yet intriguiging story...over several films.
As for Rankings.
Saw 1 Saw 6 Saw 2 Saw 3 Saw 5 Saw 4 Saw 3D
Of the post Jigsaw sequels 6 is my favourite because it perfectly wraps up everything and should have ended right there.

The first SAW is one of the best thrillers I've ever seen. Two isn't far behind. After that, there's a drop off in interest, but that's because the first 2 were so great. I do appreciate the ability of these movies to weave stories together and connect them with previous movies. Saw III-V pretty much happened at the same time. They managed to tell those stories and not confuse the f*** out of people. That takes skill. It's also impressive to keep a franchise like this going well after the key character is killed off.

Definitely watched the first 5, can't remember if I watched 6 and didn't watch 3D. If I were to rank them, probably 2,1,4,3,5. It seems the later ones get less and less memorable.
I also think it's a shame that the series gets dismissed as "torture porn" by people who probably never even watched a single one. Unlike what said people claim, there is a rather commendable attempt at telling a story, and tie all loose knots. In fact, for some of the movies, the gore isn't even all that prevalent. I think it was Saw V where there were only two scenes where the gore was a little more extreme. The one movie series I think fits the "torture porn" billing best in terms of people dying violent deaths without much of a story, it's Final Destination.

I liked them up until VI, which genuinely got me enraged at how bad it was and how hamfisted its "moral" was. On top of that, it really turned the Saw series into what people who didn't watch these movies claim it is: nothing but a gorefest whose plot is an excuse to show torture. Seriously, it's so transparent that the entire premise is designed to show at least one person die gruesomely in each scene with a trap it's unbelievable. In the movies before that, you could tell they at least tried to have the traps help the story or at least the movie's themes; in this one, the story helps come to the gore, which is a very shitty way to do "horror" and the fact that they wanted to preach a moral with such a flimsy story is downright laughable and it shows how poorly handled it was that I more or less agree with the general theme but I still found it hamfisted . Oh and the traps are stupid as f***, as are Hoffman's motivations. VII was just plain bad. It didn't even get me pissed because it was a whole bunch of nothing, and why bother getting angry over nothing?
However, I agree this series is much more solid than many people give it credit for. And the thing is, I'm convinced many people who describe the whole franchise as "torture porn" (which, by the way, has got to be the most annoying and condescending term I have ever heard and is pretty much always used by snobbish arses who hope to sound clever without actually bothering with the whole "seeing the movies" thing) have never actually seen the movies considering many of them either can't give specific examples of what they dislike about it or like to point out "plot holes" that really aren't (sometimes stuff that has been explained as early as the first movie) and that they blatantly heard from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who read about it on a blog.
Anyway, my list from best to worst:
Saw Saw IV Saw II Saw V Saw III Saw VII Saw VI

Not really a fan of the series at all, to be honest.
I will commend them for having so many different writers and yet not having too convoluted of a story. The story of the series easily could've dove into an insane mess of, "Wait, what?".
I think the main issue(and probably the main cause of some much of the series' backlash) is they released the films yearly, and that quickly wore a lot of people out of the franchise, something Paranormal Activity has quickly done as well.

I only like the first two. Saw 1 of course was legendary because it came out of no where and was fantastic. Saw 2 and the house was crazy as well. Once Saw 3 came out I was like "okay, still decent but kind of stupid" and it lost me from there.
The concept got old, but I DO understand why people like it. I get bashed for loving the Friday 13th movies way too much. So I get why people love it. Just not my cup of tea

Saw 1 Saw 2 Saw 3 Saw 4 Saw 6 Saw 5 Saw 3D
Saw 3D is the first movie I ever thought of walking out of because they gave away the ending during the opening credits. I'm still very angry about this.

Liked the first one, beyond that they become more and more for the traps sake rather than the philosophy/plot of Jigsaw.
The 3D finale was beyond terrible.

Enjoyed the first 3 (in descending order). Liked the rest, though a rewatching of 3D revealed a TON of lousy acting so I'm afraid to see if everything else aged poorly over time; loved the ending, though. Saw 3D is the first movie I ever thought of walking out of because they gave away the ending during the opening credits. I'm still very angry about this. They did? Huh. I completely missed that. Glad I didn't know this at the time I saw it.

I liked the first one when it first came out. Thought the second one was okay too. Saw the third one, don't remember much about it. I might have seen the fourth one, but I don't really care enough to make sure. It's possible that I saw five, who knows. I probably didn't see the others.
So yeah, my interest in the series through progressing movie went lower and lower and eventually into nothingness.

But I get it; filming that would inevitably lead one to believe they filmed more, and for a reason.

It really does have an unfair reputation as being raw torture porn when in reality (no matter what you think of the quality of it) it has a story that has wound from the first one all the way through 3D. The acting is a little eh besides Bell, but my standards for acting in horror are a little different anyway. It is a sneaky favorite of mine now. Jigsaw's voice on those tapes is something you never forget after you hear it.
My rankings:
-Saw -Saw III -Saw V -Saw IV -Saw VI -Saw II -Saw 3D

The first film is arguably one of the best horror films on the last decade. I loved it and still do. The second two are also great but don't quite have the pact of the first film. IV and V was whne the series turned into torture porn but were still captivating enough. VI sucked. VII was one of the worst films I have ever seen. There is absolutely nothing redeemable about it at all.

May just be me but I don't get the disdain I am seeing for Saw 6 from some people.
Apart from the first 2 movies Saw6 feels the most like a Saw movie , great traps , characters that actually have life to them instead of just bodies for the sake of bodies (coughsaw4cough)and easily the best twist of the post Jigsaw movies.

6 is definitely my favorite after the first two. It brought back the intensity and desperation the first two had and a lot of the psychological terror and mind games.
I got to say I'm pleasantly surprised to see the series is relatively respected around here. Usually it's met with total disdain and hate everywhere I look outside of Saw fan sites, so it's refreshing for a change.
