I was not impressed by this trailer at all. It amazes me how people are giving this movie a pass just because of who the director is. If Michael Bay made this exact movie, I bet most would trash this movie. What I got from this trailer is that it's always dark, always raining, and the action is shot so close that you can't tell what is going on (like Transformers). I just don't get the hype for this movie personally besides the visuals looking nice, but that is it.

Pretty easy as to why I like it; its an alien vs. giant robot movie that:
A: Is a wholly original story. B: Looks to be in an interesting setting. C: Is unlikely to be dragged down by bad comedy, unnecessary obnoxious characters, or trite story points that take attention away from the main plot, unlike some other giant robot movies.

This thread is why we have to deal with countless terrible movie parodies and Tyler Perry AFTER Tyler Perry movies.

Pretty much this. I would be hyped for this film regardless of who the director is, honestly. This is Kaiju vs. Mecha! THAT is why I am hyped for this film, not because of who the director is.

Well It looks like what a transformers film could of been without all the lame and unnecessary shit that Micheal Bay felt the need to inject.

When I saw the trailer a few months back I got worried for Charlie Hunnam. The dude has the talent be big star in movies (in addition to TV), but if this bombs it could be a big set back for him career wise.

If Michael Bay made this exact movie, I bet most would trash this movie. Michael Bay have a proven track record of delivering unwatchable shite with these kinds of films, Guillermo del Toro does not. With that I mind I shall remain optimistic.

He still has Sons of Anarchy regardless, but there's a couple rumored roles that have been talked about for him. Most notably, Del Toro would have his John Constantine for his "Dark Universe" DC movie, and early concept art for the Justice League movie have his likeness as The Flash, so...

Reasons this will be awesome: Charlie Day Charlie Hunnam Ron Pearlman
Also: Idris Elba, Larry Joe Campbell, Kurgan
A proven director.
Some people are crying MIchael Bay, personally it looks more Anime to me which I detest but the players here are gonna rock this out.

There are some people that think this is the closest they'll get to an Evangelion movie the same way some think that Chronicle is the closest they'll get to an Akira movie. They also think if this succeeds, it will make studios push for an adaption.
