So last week at work a co-worker and I were discussing Star Wars and he said Darth Maul should have lasted till ep. 3 and then gotten killed off. I hadnt watched the prequels in years before the weekend and decided to finally rewatch 1 & 2 and they werent as bad as I remmebered them being.
Anywhoo I kinda have to agree with him since Darth Maul had a bad ass look but didnt really have much of a backstory. That could have been elaborated if he'd survived. Anyone prefer Dooku to Maul? Couldnt Maul have been a former Jedi who turned to evil? I dunno if thier origins were explained on the blu rays as I havent gotten them yet.
But what do ya'll think about the two?

I actually liked Count Dooku over Darth Maul. Thing about Maul is that, he actually had the potential for a great backstory, and while he redeemed himself in the Extended Universe, but his death in the first episode doesn't help him out.

Yea I'm strictly a movie guy. I don't really know or have bothered with the expanded universe.

If I remember correctly, Maul did survive in the Clone Wars cartoon. Went a bit cuckoo from being cut in half, but went less cuckoo after a bit.

I like both, Dooku is the better actor as it's Christopher Lee.
However for sheer cool you can't beat Maul double bladed lightsabre and all.

Maul felt like a tool you could use, but was too stupid/inept to do anything but cause trouble without a tight leash.
Dooku was his own force that could operate independently yet remain fairly loyal. He understood what made the Galaxy Work on the political side AND in reality.
With proper micromanaging and parenting, Maul would probably be awesome. But since I hate having to constantly look over people's shoulders, I'd prefer Dooku. He's got middle management written all over him.

Darth Maul was literally the only thing worth it in A Phantom Menace.

I think they should have found a way to up the power on Grevious, personally.
Have him be a severly injured Sith Lord that they turned mostly machine. Sort of a protype Darth Vader of sorts.

This just makes me think of how much Lucas likes to waste good things.
