My main exposure to Fargo was through the Memphis Heat documentary, but you could tell in that what he meant to the territory, and everyone who came in after him, including Lawler. Hard to imagine how Jerry will be feeling tonight, if he'll be on air at all.

Absolute legend. R.I.P. Here's Jerry Lawler's Tweet: Without the Fabulous Jackie Fargo, there would never have been a King Jerry Lawler. RIP Jackie. ..

I don't think people really realize how wrestling still permeates the culture here in Memphis. I go to the flea market every month and buy stuff from the guy who made the Memphis Heat documentary, and he has a display advertising and selling the DVD there. Every single time someone passes by it they stop and then start talking to him about Lawler or Sputnik Monroe, but more often than not they bring up the name Jackie Fargo, and not just older people, but people who have only seen clips here and there. So he will always be remembered here in Memphis.
RIP.

So sad... Rest In Peace...
I didn't get to see much of this guy's stuff, but the impression he left on me from the Memphis Heat film is indelible. Loved his personality from what I saw... I now have to look further into his work.

I haven't seen much of his work, but I know of the influence he had on the business.
Rest in peace, sir.

In a sense, Jackie Fargo was to Jerry Lawler what Billy Graham was to Hulk Hogan in the industry. Just as Hogan took the look and the larger-than-life personality from Billy, Jerry learned the business, the charisma, the IT factor from Jackie. Not to mention that while Lawler was essentially a rock star in Memphis, it was Fargo who brought many fans to the business in the first place. My son is a FOURTH generation wrestling fan, on both sides of the family. Why? Because his grandparents grew up watching his great-grandparents scream at the TV for Jackie to kick Tojo Yamamoto's ass. And as Jackie passed the torch to Jerry, those parents passed the torch to kids who are now parents themselves. Being a Memphis kid, I was born on Jerry Lawler, grew up on Hulk Hogan, matured with Austin and Rock, and now my kid is a Cena fan, but all of that started with my grandmother turning on her TV every week just to see Jackie Fargo.
R.I.P. Jackie, and thanks for everything.

Not as well know was the fact that Jackie Fargo worked quite a bit in New York before settling down in Memphis. He and his "brother" Don sold out MSG as a tag team often.
RIP to a true legend of wrestling.

RIP. A legend and an innovator.
I will be doing the Fargo strut nude in his honor. Okay, maybe I do that everyday, but today it will be in his honor!

I agree with Akeem's quote above. That quote IS what every wrestling fan should be. We all have our favourites for whatever reasons, but without the true innovators like Jackie Fargo (who is well respected by many I know here in Great Britain) we wouldn't have a lot of the stars we have today.
RIP

Often imitated, but never duplicated. As you can see in my updated signature pic, I got to meet Jackie and Don Fargo at Fanfest in 2009, where they were inducted into the Hall of Heroes along with 3rd "brother" Roughhouse Fargo.
He was such a larger than life character in and out of the ring. Even then, late in life, when Jackie Fargo walked into the room full of fellow legends & fans, you couldn't help but turn your head in his direction. I will not forget the experience of seeing the man himself do the Fargo strut. As much as people may joke about no one else doing it exactly right...it's true.
I saw another quote from Lawler today in which he referred to Fargo as his friend, mentor, and father figure. Fargo's importance to Memphis has already been covered in this thread far better than I could do it. It is my hope that more and more fans who may not be familiar with him can learn and appreciate it.
If you haven't watched "Memphis Heat" yet, DO IT. I can not recommend it strongly enough.

I still need to see Memphis Heat. But Jackie and Don Fargo were great. Even Roughhouse was good for what he was. A once a year thing.
