The recent about Independence Day 2 and a lot of people claiming that Will Smith isn't very talented, I got to wondering who are talented actors? Who in your opinion are talented actors?

-Nicolas Cage and I'm being serious. Absolutely. When he's on, he's very on. When he isn't on, it's still entertaining. I measure "talent" based on how you invoke your abilities into the role, giving the role life and it not necessarily being just you playing yourself. Being versatile is important, but it isn't the end all. Many talented actors do better with certain character types, as opposed to something that they may still be great at playing, but it's not what people want to see out of them, case in point; Joe Pesci. To be honest, it's easier for me to list "limited" actors compared to talented ones. I'd say that a good percentage of actors out there can pull off playing more than just extensions. And the ones that are "contained" are the ones that somehow still have box office appeal.

This may be a controversial pick but I find Jason Statham talented. He's the best action star since Arnie, Stallone, and Willis. He commands attention very well and is natural good comedic timing. Like keep in mind in Lock Stock and Snatch he wasn't a action hero but rather the comedian of those movies. Plus he isn't afraid of being versatile. Plus he's the only new action star that rose when Hollywood tried hard to manufacture and find other action heroes.

Bryan Cranston.
Killed it on a comedic level on Malcolm in the Middle, then changed the game with Breaking Bad.
I give mad props to anyone who can to a great acting job in both comedy AND drama.
Robin Williams, for example, is funny as hell. But in One Hour Photo, holy crap, is he creepy. And in Insomnia, he holds his own next to Al Pacino.

Stephen Graham, for a guy that comes across as such a nice bloke in real life he's brilliant at playing really nasty characters. I was glad he got the role of Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire and he's been doing a great job with it.
