I'm a huge fan of movies based on comics but what superhero movies has had actual comics arcs incorporated in them?
As an example I like the Joker story told in The Dark Night and hoped maybe it was adapted from a comics story I could read.

Watchmen is a good example of this. It may not have been dead-on like the comic, but when I first saw it, I recognized a lot of parts.

The Dark Knight was obviously inspired by various Joker stories, but it definitely wasn't a straight adaptation of those works. It also used much of the Harvey Dent arc from "The Long Halloween". Usually with these types of movies, they draw inspiration from comic stories but change so much that it's not really that similar in the end. Another example being X2: X-Men United. It was inspired by "God Loves, Man Kills", but very little of that book is intact in the final film.

Wasn't the one bad day thing Joker kept referencing pretty much taken from the Killing Joke? (not really his actions per say... but the principle idea of it)

One of the lines in that book was "If I am going to have a story, I prefer it be multiple choice". All the b.s. tales he was spinning in that movie definitely support that.

There were heavy elements of Knigthfall and The Dark Knight Returns in Dark Knight Rises.
Man of Steel was influenced by Birthright.

-the Dark Knight Rises was basically Knightfall + No Man's Land + A Tale of Two Cities.
-while it wasn't based on a specific story at all, Captain America borrowed heavily from Ed Brubaker's run on the book.
-the alien invaders from Avengers were a heavily truncated version of the Chitauri from the Ultimates (who are basically the Ultimate universe version of the Skrulls from the 616 universe).

Not superheroes, but the first Turtles movie had:
#1 - Origin, rooftop fight with Shredder. #2 - Meet April, bring her to the sewer lair. #3 - The Turtles discover that Splinter has gone missing, goes to April for help. Raphael one-shot - Raphael meets Casey Jones. Leonardo one-shot & #10 - One of the Turtles is attacked by the Foot, and thrown through April's window. The Foot burns down April's building. #11 - The Turtles, April and Casey take refuge at the Northampton farm.

Part of Spider-man 2 is based off the story "Spider-Man No More!"

Spider-man 3 is a super-bastardized version of the Death of Harry Osbourne, combined with a forced and uninteresting, incredibly truncated version of the Birth of Venom.

Okay, I remember reading Chasing Dogma a long time ago and watching Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back not too long after and recognizing the whole orangutan subplot and Fugitive parody. When I watched it, I was like "This seems really familiar." I am certain that Chasing Dogma is canon, but the whole Suzanne subplot in that comic left me wondering if that happened. I wonder if Kevin Smith mentioned anything about in the commentary for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. I should listen to it soon as I still have that movie.
