If we can talk classic Chikara for a moment, been on a bit of a Chikara DVD kick as of late and I was wondering what the consensus was on the essential Chikara shows, from both a storyline and an overall quality/fun standpoint. (not including the best-of compilations)

I am serious. This is one of the absolute worst angles in wrestling history The fact that so many people appear to be following it make it seem that you are in the minority with that opinion. My opinion is at least partially based in fact though. The storyline called for a close of the promotion. Without running shows or selling stuff with their store online they're making less money then they would if they didn't run the storyline. That's just bad business and that's not even getting into how unnecessarily complicated the story is or the fact that it's being used to push Icarus of all people as a top face.

Also how many people are actually following EVERY Twitter page and EVERY "is it a clue" thing out there compared to how many people would have been intregued and potentially bought King of Trios?

Right now is the worst part of the storyline, as we don't really know what's going to happen or how long it will take for CHIKARA to come back. Especially so if you're incredibly impatient like me. I have the opposite problem. I've pretty much put my CHIKARA fandom on hibernate mode until further notice. When it's time to come back, I'll be diving in headfirst, but right now is just isn't a time where I feel compelled to keep going gimmie gimmie gimmie to the minds behind CHIKARA when I know that they won't until they're good and ready.

How dare CHIKARA make a storyline with a little originality, an insane amount of planning reminiscent of myth arcs on successful television shows (but with LESS making it up as they go along), and take a risk.
And furthermore how DARE people actually enjoy it. Let it die, don't you dare enjoy it if I don't. Terrible that you would enjoy something I don't like. Grumble grumble.

I mean, come on guy, let's be realistic. It's obvious they're painfully dragging it along despite no fan support. It's not like there are several large pockets of fans buzzing about it or people who never paid attention to CHIKARA now looking at it, or in some cases, reporting about it. This is Season 4 Angel levels of bad. It's beating the dead horse that is CHIKARA and that's just not fair.

The only thing that really makes sense to me at this point is that they thought Chikara's looking presence was keeping them from getting the Wrestling Is things established as their own, independent companies with distinct fanbases. They realized competing with themselves is a bad thing to do when trying to establish a new thing. I don't know if it works that way, but at least the logic is sound: You maximize your profits later if you can let each of your outlets have their own audiences. I also kind of wonder if they bought Kaiju or something and see big money in it and they want to hype it up.

Update on the Ashes Vine. Looks like we'll be taking a break from following the Ants around and potentially following a peeping Icarus instead...unless he's being the one peeped upon.

The Kaiju guys only really works in their own stuff. When they try to actually wrestle, it's usually horrible.

I went through that 76 page article again and was wondering if there was any significance to the "helpful, strawberry-haired expectant mother" who was working the merch table in 2015 when Archie was briefly there?

See, my view on this is pretty much that I appreciate that CHIKARA had the gutso to try something like this. Even if it doesn't succeed the way they want it to (and honestly, it's still too early to tell), we've always talked about wrestling companies trying something different and, even if it's not the way some people would have wanted it to go, it's better then them going to other wrestling makeshift favourite storylines of EEEEEVIL GM AND HIS BAND OF EEEEVIL HENCHMENZ (and I say that as someone who really likes the New Corperation right now)!

Then again, it's only some sort of long-term variation on that "EEEEEVIL GM AND HIS BAND OF EEEEVIL HENCHMENZ".

Also I disagree with the idea that ANYTHING is too complicated for a wrestling storyline. Wrestling fans need to stop shitting all over their own medium and have faith in its ability to be the medium for any kind of storyline.

Sure, the end game will end with some variation on that but it's not like it's in the forefront every month with 20 minute monologues as the show kicks off.

Well, given the fact that there's no Chikara shows anymore, that would be pretty hard to do. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}(just kidding)
