I believe a gay character could absolutely work in WWE... Just not one written by Vince McMahon. Rico was like the Liberace of WWE in his last gimmick, and he was over like crazy. I still have no idea why they didn't run with that more than they did. I think that Rico could have definitely gone farther than he did. I will however always laugh at the time that Jeff Hardy was supposed to knock him off the turnbuckle and he missed the spot so Rico stood up there for what seemed like 45 seconds to a minute before yelling out "goddammit Jeff!" loud as anything, at which point here comes Jeff with the attack.

What's funny about homosexuality? Real answer: Nothing. Nothing funny about being gay, just like there isn't anything funny about Batman. Place Batman in pretty much any situation though... Humor is not inherent in anything, it comes from having something pop up where you wouldn't expect. That's why there are theories that laughter used to be a way of warning people if things had gone wrong back when cavemen really needed some sort of sign to communicate that. It's a combination of "you really didn't expect this" and "but this would have a severe effect on the situation" regardless of whether that effect is good or bad. And having Ryback suddenly combat his failed heel turn with a gay turn is very much funny for those aforementioned reasons. What I'm saying is, being gay is just like being Batman. I think. Would a serious gay Batman work in DC's New 52?

There weren't any gay people in Brokeback Mountain. Bisexuals, however... Gyllenhal for sure but there is arguement that Ledger might of been full gay for one of the reasons he was so serious. Yup Film Critics think Ledgers character may have been gay because he was so serious. So he was a serious gay? A super serious serious gay? A serious meta gay? Head explodes in a million pieces

Granted the beard he has now is horrifying even for me, but regular beard is very sexy on him

I do not get the borderline obsession with having an openly gay WWE star. I mean, people's sexuality doesn't matter to me in the least, I dont give a damn who you want to get freaky with, but I always figured the locker room in the WWE would be a bit "Intolerant" to say the least so why chance it? plus, can you imagine the crowd chants at an openly gay wrestler? Especially in a place like Philly? And Jerry Lawler making a veiled gay joke everytime the guy is out there!! I have read that it took a long time for crowds in the south to stop chanting "N***er" at the black wrestlers so I can only imagine what sort of reception a gay wrestler would get.
Just let it go already. When the time is right it will happen but this country is in no way shape or form ready for it.

Maybe Bryan doesn't have to go beardless, but he looks good with just a little bit of stubble. U.S. Champ/MiTB Bryan was my favorite look for him.

Ryback says "I'm gay" and then John cena(?!) beats him up!!! and calls him a fag. Then the crowds chant brokeback while Ryback is shunned by his co-workers, only to find redemption in Randy Orton?

Just let it go already. When the time is right it will happen but this country is in no way shape or form ready for it. The simple fact is that erasure doesn't help a single bit. If everyone says "Well, we'd better not mention these people, just in case there's a bad reaction to them", then we make it seem more unusual, and the prejudice gets carried down over further generations. Yes, there are going to be some nasty people out there chanting stuff, but as you note, black wrestlers faced the same intolerance... It doesn't mean that they decided to never use black wrestlers just in case. There may still be intolerance from some circles, but at the same time, how else can we move forward? And hey, WWE have been fine with teasing the idea for heel gimmicks, (Goldust, Billy & Chuck, etc.), so why not give us a positive take on it?

I believe he was referencing both Why So Serious? and the Serious Gay Wrestler memes.
