Maxx made this thread at another forum. If I am stepping on your toes, sorry. I didn't see this thread anywhere, if there is one, just tell me and get it locked, but don't be harsh.

There's a nice chunk of contenders for this. I'm tempted to say Delirious, but I'll go with Nigel. I can watch his matches in late 05 and see that he was becoming something great. But after his title run and the series against Bryan Danielson? He's gone from a really good contender to a legit main event player and future ROH Champion in the span of about 8-10 months.

Delerious. Without a doubt. He's a viable contender now.
And his music rocks.

Nigel hands down. From people hating him and his titl reign to having 5-star matches with Dragon and Marifuji, he's taken his English style and made it fun to watch.

Nigel, and Roddy Strong are tied in my book. I expect big things from Strong in '07, and a title reign for Nigel.

Delirious with his almost out of nowhere rise. And also this year I started to like BJ Whitmer more...so maybe him too?

I was already as hardcore a fan of Nigel before this year, so he's out of my choices. Not to say the guy didn't step-up to the oppertunity given to him, because he certainly did. But not as much as Mr. Delirious.

What about Jack Evans? Ever since the Dragon Gate tours, he's gone from a pitiful spot monkey to a solid high-flyer.
That said, Nigel's the only guy who rose to the absolute top tier. Even if some of his moves are a little contrived, his storytelling abilities have grown and created some of the most unique matches of the year (the match vs. Strong still stands out as one of my favorites this year).

I just like how in such a short time Delerious actually became a tough opponent for Danielson, and thus a viable threat to the title.

It depends what we mean by "improve."
If we mean "gained credibility in the eyes of the fans," then, beyond a doubt, Delirious. He'd been a part-time jobber in ROH since 2004, always having solid matches, but always losing. This year, he made Bryan Danielson tap. Also, he's now one of the most over acts in ROH. Whitmer is probably the runner up.
However, if we mean "improve" as in actually improving their quality of work in the ring, then I think we have to go with BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs. With Jacobs, perhaps that potential had always been there, but hadn't been given a chance to shine in ROH; however, this year, Jacobs has consistently turned in some of the most entertaining, well-wrestled matches on any card, and played his gimmick perfectly to boot. He was always talented and had pretty good amounts of charisma, but he took it to another level this year.
Whitmer, to me, looked better this year than ever, and I don't just think it was because of all the sick bumps he took in the CZW feud. That was certainly a part of it, and I don't think the guy's one of the absolute best yet or anything, but he took some serious damn steps this year in improving both his ringwork and his promos.
I don't want to include Roderick and Nigel here, since I feel they both really showed a big part of how much they were improving in 2005.

How could I have forgotten my favorite former tag team? The CZW fued made BJ into what he should always have been, IMO, a star. BJ Whitmer is like ROH's Tommy Dreamer. Always going above and beyond, but not getting his due from the fans. But just like Tommy had the Raven Fued to put him over, BJ had the CZW fued.

Whitmer and Rave to me, I'm not totally hard into ROH as I wish I was, I don't have access to a whole lot of shows, but I've seen Rave once when he was feuding with AJ Styles, and Styles was sort of acting as his mentor, I saw Whitmer in a few matches with CM Punk during his awesome feud with Raven, and some tag team matches where he tagged with Dan Maff, and I thought both of them were good wrestlers, but particularly bland characters, but Whitmer was the one I was actually marking for most in the feud with CZW, and Jimmy Rave in the Embassy totally has my attention, one of my favorite entrances in wrestling right now, especially when he gets assaulted with toilet paper, spending several minutes just throwing it back.

I gotta say Delirious. He went from a jobber of sorts to a high status mainstay in just one year. Gotta give props for that.

Well, this thread certainly has more activity than the one I made at the other board Andy mentioned. I don't want to include Roderick and Nigel here, since I feel they both really showed a big part of how much they were improving in 2005. This was actually a point Andy & I were discussing. Roderick had clearly improved alot in 2005 (his matches with Danielson were superb!) & had he stayed just at that level he still would've been excellent. But rather than just coasting on that success he continued onward & upward to become even better in 2006. The guy just got better with each successive outing. I definitely see a RoH World title reign in his near future.
