This was inspired by the Borash thread and the guy that mentioned Lord Alfred Hayes-nowadays it seems everything is casual, hell I sometimes see weathermen who don't put on a coat and tie, and it bothers me frankly, Even though this is a business that's brought us "The Kiss My Ass Club" and setting people on fire, I still think when announcers wear a jacket and tie it makes for a better presentation, what about You?

A resounding yes. I want to buy into it for the time that I watch it. If you aren't an in-ring talent, dress that way. Lawler is in costume because he is the King first and foremost. Tazz and Styles do it right. JR wears a Heartland/Southern style suit+hat get-up that works. And then Michael Cole is standing around in a polo shirt. Polo shirts are for golfing and high schools with dress codes. Guys who don't wear suits make the operation seem shady: what is he doing with all the money he gets paid if dresses like ass?
If you want us to suspend our disbelief, then make it seem like your wrestling/entertainment promotion is at the very least professional.

Aren't wrestlers obliged to wear a suit when not in wrestling gear?

Yeah Mike Tenay always wears that same tux, nothing else.
It's what does he wear to a formal party?
He's not James Bond, though if Tenay was a super secret Agent, that still wouldn't make him cool.
West wouldn't be the same without the Silk SHirt/Silk Tie combo

Oh BTW yes, yes and YES!! A suit is about the most manly and classy thing a man can wear, they should all wear it, from the commentator to the janitor!

I preferred JR when he was in NWA/WCW and wore a suit-I'd mark out if he came out one night without the hat and had a suit on(provided no one had just died or anything)

Yes, especially at Pay-Per-Views. Every announcer should wear suits, everyone but JERRY LAWLER. He needs to go back to being heel and wearing his match attire at ringside.

Yes... and King needs to stop wearing his wrestling gear under his clothes. Every time he's announced for a match, he has his tights and singlet on already and while he acts surprised he's already stripping away his suit.
It's either amazing optimism that he wears them to every show... or it's breaking kayfabe.

I really don't care. I'm not watching to see the announcers. They can dress how they want.

I knew it always give the interviewers credibility in my book. Mean Gene was always in a suit and it looked like he belonged there doing that job. Now it just looks like they drag in someone off the street and make them introduce wrestlers so they can be told to shut up and shoved off camera.
Announcers aren't seen on camera as often, but given their position, they still wear suits like sports commentators do. Even when I called high school football games for my local public access channel I was expected to wear a nice shirt and tie.

For play-by-play guys, I think it better if they wear a suit of some kind. Makes them look more like the straight man.
For color guys, let them wear whatever they want.

Why does the idea of Mike Tenay as James Bond tickle me so much?

Play-by-play guys, absolutely. Color guys, if they're inactive wrestlers, should wear whatever would fit with the character. Like it's been said, Savage or Ventura would look stupid in suits, but, say, Tazz could pull it off.

Then when he's sick of not getting booked, comes out and cuts a promo promising to "stamp out" any doubt in his abilities. Cue new tag-team and millions of trampoline-jumping vignettes.
