I'd say the whole thing walked a fine line, but neither really got too smarky.
I did think it was funny that Cena claimed to have wrestled all over the world but clearly didn't understand/know about a Japanese wrestling custom.

Well Bryan didn't directly say anything "smarky" but he essentially said all the things that the smarks like to say about Cena without using their jargon and Cena made him look like a fool for accusing him of being a joke.

To me D-Bry throwing the Japanese thing in there was the smarky equivalent of Cena's Make-A-Wish name drop. It reeked of "I'm a real wrestler, I wrestled for New Japan!" Both guys are awesome but they haven't gotten much to work with in this angle.

Yeah both sides had a lame aspect to the promo, although I did enjoy both of them.
