I mean on TV it was never mentioned and they had Tunney and Gorilla as "WWF President" to represent the company on TV and make matches. To me, Vince was just the quirky babyface commentator. I was shocked to find out he was actually the boss. I only found out when Jim Ross cut that worked shoot about Vince firing him twice in '96. I was like "VINCE fired him?"

When I started watching he was already "out".

PWI Magazine mentioned it a number of times, so around 1992/93, I think.

Probably during the steroid scandal. It is hilarious to watch the old shows and listen to the little jabs that Jesse would hit him with on commentary after you know that Vince is the boss.

Vince? I thought Ray Traylor was the boss.

I didn't even know he had been a commentator until several years watching.

There was a video package on Primetime Wrestling in early 1992 about the WWF supporting a cancer charity (Gilda's Club), and showed Vince McMahon, CEO of Titan Sports and presented him as the owner of the company.
That's when I realized he was more than an announcer.
And shortly afterwards there was something about him in one of the Apter mags, saying he was more than an announcer.

I think it was during the steroid scandal that I became aware he wasn't just an announcer. Though I'm guessing my dad knew long before then from some newspaper story. But he never told me.

My dad was kind of an old school smark so he told me when I was little that Vince was the owner.

The WWF Steroid Scandal was when I fully became aware. Though I recall prior to it my grandpa making a few comments about Vince, being a NWA fan, before that that never really registered in my head prior to the scandal. Then they suddenly made a lot more sense.

'96 was the clear indicator.

Around the time of WM4. My dad outed him, I thought it was common knowledge until the late 90s.

One of my Dad's friends was an old-school wrestling fan and he never failed to bring it up every time he was around. He was also fond of pointing out previous gimmicks, like Kane being Isaac Yankem, or Undertaker having been in WCW.

My dad never taught me the birds and the bees when we had "The Talk" in 1989 it was that wrestling was fake and Vince McMahon was the owner. He said his friend at work knew someone that works for WWF and that Hulk Hogan was gonna win the title from Macho Man at WrestleMania V.
