I think The Shield was made to look strong on RAW to pose, individually, as strong foils to Bryan.
No way they give away Orton vs. Bryan for the WWE Title at Night of Champions already. Triple H and The McMahons are going to stall it out like crazy, demanding that DB go through each member of The Shield before getting another title shot.
Thus...
Bryan vs. Rollins at Night of Champions
Bryan vs. Ambrose at Hell in a Cell
Bryan vs. Reigns at Battleground
then finally,
Bryan vs. Orton for the strap at Survivor Series

Triple H was treating them like a glorified Gunner and Murphy.

They're the Triple threat Big Bossmen that Vince wanted the first go round with the Corporation.

For Bryan to have to get allies when Henry, Show and others fail.
Either The Wyatts, after promising Bray a shot at the WWE title should Bryan win it.
Or...the guy that the Shield took out a little after WrestleMania, The Undertaker.

H ordered them around like they were his personal bitches. They'll probably have about as much credibility as Lucy when this is over.

Who would Orton be fighting that whole time then?

They were heavily involved in the main angle after Summerslam. Things are looking good for them.

Who would Orton be fighting that whole time then? Handpicked challengers by Triple H -- Kofi, Ryder, etc They'd be getting a huge push in a way -- spotlighted in the WWE title picture -- and would look good in defeat a la Taka and Maven who went toe-to-toe with HHH back in the day.

It won't happen but I want them to eventually turn wild. Vince and Triple H use them as their private hit squad but it gets to the point where they go too far and they turn to Vince and Triple H as the source of the injustice that they fight.

Weren't they just loosely feuding with RKO, Sheamus, and Big Show like a month ago?
It was weird for them to be out there

Shield Guys fight for and against who they see fit. Believe in Shield Guys.

Orton can choose from this list: Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, CM Punk, Kofi Kingston (STUPID! STUPID!), The Miz, Kane, RVD, Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara, Cody Rhodes, Mark Henry, or Christian

I was thinking more along the lines of Bryan vs. Orton at NoC (loss due to Shield interference), rematch at Battleground (loss due to Shield/Triple H interference), Bryan vs. Triple H at (and IN) Hell in a Cell, then Bryan vs. Orton in a cage at Survivor Series with Bryan finally winning the strap back.

The company needs to seriously stop with pairing two guys for three or more PPVs in a row.
There are many ways to navigate a feud.

I like the idea of having Bryan fight his way back toward the title. I am just not sure how long. I want to see him have a decent reign and I feel like having him win at survivor series instead of rumble or mania now wouldn't be as great

Triple H's matches with the likes of Taka, Rikishi and Maven were all cool back in the day but they were all on TV. I don't think a PPV with Orton vs Ryder advertised would do great business which is the WWE's bottom line.

I'd have Orton vs. Bryan at NOC, with The Shield/Trips causing a DQ, then Bryan gets blocked from title shots for the next few PPVs, then Bryan wins the Rumble, forcing Orton/Bryan for the title to happen at WrestleMania, where Bryan wins it.
