Why are so many people comparing this current Daniel Bryan vs. New Corporation angle to the Austin vs. Corporation back in 98-99 in terms of Bryan looking believable. To me storyline wise, there is no comparison. People keep saying that if Bryan just looks like a threat and looks like he has a chance against them, it will look believable. But there's one major flaw with the comparison:
Back in 98-99, there was an equal authority figure that could step up to Vince and the Corporation...Linda McMahon, who could challenge, add wrinkles, or plain overthrow Vince's plans on Austin. That is what made it look believable that Austin had a chance. Because it was an actual fair fight 9 times out of 10.
That doesn't exist anymore. There's no Linda, there's no Shane, there's no equal party to combat the authority of HHH and the McMahons. Everyone that runs the company is in this faction, so how does a fanbase start to think how the faces can challenge the McMahons. The corporation can do whatever the hell they want, and do anything and everything they please with no fear of consequence or challenging of power.
So with that, no one looks like they have a chance because there's no one to come and fight for the aid of the faces. This is an all-heel running of the show with no hope in sight.
Is this just me? Am I not seeing something that compares it storyline wise?
