My big issue with it is that "boom" implies that wrestling (or rather, just WWE in this instance) during its non-boom periods is like this obscure and uber-remote thing that advertisers and networks don't care about, and definitely that's far from the case now.
I kinda wish they were more known as "trend periods", because if you consider all the sponsors WWE has as of now combined with their consistently good ratings and the fact the company's top face has more Twitter followers than some top Hollywood stars, you could argue they're in a boom right now if you wanted to be literal. The difference between now and Attitude isn't a matter of booking or them not having the right guy, but that wrestling has a lot more entertainment venues to compete with.
The way some fans paint WWE's situation now, you'd think they were on the verge of folding.

It's a bit of an outdated concept now anyway.
You won't ever see the same type of period not because wrestling won't ever be 'hot' again, but the fact that the ways we can access entertainment are so vastly different than they were in the later nineties.

No more boom periods.
We need sonic boom periods.

Personally, I only ever see it as a term used in a mocking way, which is pretty much exclusively how I use it. Granted, I never actually want wrestling to be mainstream again, because that's where you get stupid shock stuff mounting every week and good weather fans who years later say things like, "Who used to tell people to suck it? Was that Stone Cold?"
I've actually heard that before.

I thought it was stupid then and think it's stupid now.

This is the new boom period, brother! This is a new era of attitude and ruthless aggression. Ratings are going through the roof! Fans want reality based sport entertainment, so we've pulled back the curtain. OF course this is all what's best for business. What other cliches can I use?

I'm more interested in seeing the next broom period. I hear Triple H is trying to get that one moving.

I'm pissed that Cody Rhoades just got fired because we were about to start the groom period.

Kane's hand-stitched singlet might lead us into the Loom period.

Diva swimsuit competitions that allow thongs will usher in the zoom-a-zoom-zoom-zoom and a poom-poom period.
