If they wanted to do this storyline and write the ironclad contract out of canon then that was very easily done - Big Show could have signed another contract and that would be that.
Instead they bring up the fact that Show does indeed still have the contract - but add the stipulation that if he doesn't compete then that contract will become void.
That's a silly justification because Heel Show already stated that he doesn't have to compete if he doesn't want to, but there you go.
Then, that all gets thrown out of the window anyway when HHH will some how fire him if he doesn't attack Daniel Bryan after the match is already over?!
How is that IRONCLAD?

I am in awe that they thought THAT was the best way to handle it. Like...wow.
"Your ironclad contract only lasted you a year Show, know your place." "With John Laurenitis gone, and all his horrible contract decisions undone..."

The physical contract is ironclad... the terms and conditions detailed on it aren't.

It's John Laurinaitis's fault. They mentioned it.

Next week Show needs a comeback of some sort:
Big Show: I've got a boatload of PAID vacation on that contract and I'm taking it.
Triple H: Wait a minute Show you have to fulfill your in ring obligations and provide notification before you can use that.
Big Show: I just notified you. And as of right now I don't have a match for Raw, Smackdown, or Night of Champions. If you had a match planned for me then I guess you should have notified me before I went on vacation.

If they wanted to explain away the Iron Clad Contract issue, all they needed was HHH saying "I hired smarter lawyers and they figured out a loophole." Boom. Problem solved with very minimal fuss and a lot of time saved.
Though Steph's heart to heart with Big Show did provide some unintentional comedy.

To be fair, JBL both said that Big Johnny (though he called him "Skateboard") was an idiot who couldn't get anything right, and that HHH had the "best lawyers in the world".

And that's really where they should have stopped. The scene with Stephanie airing Show's dirty laundry didn't need to happen. People were already on Show's side. People already hate the New Corporation or whatever they're calling it. The only purpose it served was making Big Show look like a blubbering idiot.

I'll give them an automatic pass simply because I'm impressed they actually used continuity.

maybe it was IRONCLAD at one point but then Show got careless and left it out in the rain for months. now he's back but discovered some of the iron has rusted and there are a few holes in it now.

I'll give them an automatic pass simply because I'm impressed they actually used continuity. Me too. I'm kind of sad that my standards for wrestling storytelling are so low, but hey. CONTINUITY! Plus I can't help but be amused that the answer to the plot hole is them basically going "You see, Johnny Ace is an idiot. Dude can't do anything right."

Oh man, I'm overthinking this.
They definitely could've gone the way where when Show got the Ironclad contract, it was right after he had gotten fired. So, by someone shoving "Ironclad contract, can never be fired" in his face.... he'd be so overjoyed by that, he'd sign.
Of course, what he didn't realize is... while he is on the roster forever, he will only be paid per match, per assignment. Sure, if he has a ton of money saved up (storyline-wise this can fluctuate), he can skip out on anything he wants... but eventually, he HAS to compete to feed his family. So, if he refuses.... he can't be fired... but he also runs the risk of not being booked at all. Thereby making his famiy starve due to his principles.

Perhaps the contract was frontloaded to pay Show handsomely in the first year and then only a moderate salary for the years after that, and Show blew all that money on his strip mall ventures.

I was thinking about this earlier. I didn't particularly mind the whole explanation...but maybe that's because WWE has just lowered my expectations for storytelling in the past few years, especially after the CEO, COO, GM, roster walk out debacle.
I was thinking they could have gone along the lines of: "If you refuse to wrestle, we will lose our trust in you and won't book you for future shows. You not getting booked = you making no money. You can't leave until your ironclad contract runs out years and years down the line in the future, so you will be making no money for years and years. You try and quit and we will sue you for breach of contract (or whatever). You have to do the right thing and do your job."

This is one of the only times where I wish WWE didn't use continuity for something. Now what's the incentive for Show to turn heel if that's where this is going? "I've got a SUPER-IRONCLAD contract!"?
