Hi guys
Long time lurker, 1st time poster. I was just wondering as I dont remember it happening (though that of course doesn't mean it didn't!)did the undertaker ever claim credit for putting HBK out of the then WWF by backdropping him onto the casket at RR 98? I thought during his whole 'American Bad Ass' days it wouldve been a perfect thing to claim to stop people from enetering his 'yard' but i dont remember it happening. Obviously with Taker being far beyond face/heel nowadays it wont happen.
I know if anyone would know the answer it'll be you guys!
Thanks in advance

There were two months where he wore that "I broke Bottom's Back" shirt but I don't think they ever mentioned it.

It never happened because when it did happen the Undertaker was still the deadman lord of Darkness. The whole this is my yard deal didn't happen until 3 years later. Plus there was not use to even say it when you facing Kane. Plus on camera most fans didn't know that being the case or reason as HBK did face Austin after that happened. Fans didn't know any of the stories until years later once the wrestling news sites really became legit, 98 most sites where well fake.
By the time Undertaker became more human, HBK was around once as a referee and that was when he returned from injury and he was a face. Could he done it against HHH? maybe. That's really the only time it would made sense. When he turned heel he was more about respect then saying he hurts people. Then HBK of course cameback. They never spoke about when it happen. Just that he did hurt his back. Most fans would guessed it happened in Austin for what the on camera was.

I guess Undertaker called Shawn 'Bottom' at one point; I guess as a play on Hickenbottom and because Shawn used to act like an ass.

This makes non-Deadman Undertaker so much more awesome to me (12 years too late)!

I love the thought of the other wrestlers calling Shawn "Bottom" and Shawn getting pissy over it.

Because HBK's "broken back" was a work. He never got hurt, it was an excuse to leave the company as he understood he was going to job to new stars like Rock and Austin. Then suddenly after 5 years of dramaticcaly incapacitating career ending injury he returns and wrestle like nothing happened?? COME ON! He just matured a little after quitting cocaine and decided to return.

Yeah I get that he wouldn't have refrenced it as Lord of darkness Taker, I just wasnt sure if when he relaxed Kayfabe a little and became more humanised as ABA he might have, especially as he was heel for a period. I never really thought about the fact that most people wouldn't have known back when it happended either, so thanks for pointing that out. I think it explains a lot

He just matured a little after quitting cocaine and decided to return. So HBK took off during the hottest period in wrestling history because of ego? Um, no. It was a work? Then HBK most be also the worlds greatest actor because explain to me if he wasn't hurt why he wrestled most of his match with Austin with how he moved in that whole match with pain look on his face and moved very different then normal. You could tell that he wasn't right and very stiff. Yes he returned like nothing happened but then again so did Ricky Steamboat and he too not only had a bad injury but was MIA for a lot longer as was older. Yes getting cleaned up may had something to do with it yes. But it wasn't just ego because honestly HBK would never missed out on the biggest pay days one wrestler could get when wrestling was at it's pike. HBK back was a mess and if you watch WM 14 you can tell that because he didn't move as smooth as he normally does and always had a pain look on his face. Unless like I said he was the world greatest actor. HBK likely was still getting better for the year he was gone. But the personal demons keep him from having his head on to wrestle. 2002 you can tell HBK was better. He looked it in the face. He had the energy that he at times lacked.

He was hurt yes, but the "career ending injury" thing was bullshit. He could have come back after a few months but didn't because he was a junkie mess and wouldn't work as a supporting cast like he accepted to do it during his "second" career.

This argument seems to come up in every single conversation regarding Shawn's back injury.
I'd love to see someone take a back body drop over the top rope onto the edge of a reinforced casket, then work through it "a few months later".
Back injuries can be quite debilitating. There's no course for how long it may take to rehab, in Shawn's case, it probably would have been a year or more. When you're not wrestling for a year and being a major druggie (something that he fully admitted to, and something that detractors will throw in his face any chance they get), I can see how Shawn not coming back to the ring wasn't in his best interest. When you're gone for so long, your frame of mind in terms of getting back to it only seems to be a determinate to hold you back.
So no. It wasn't just the back. It was also the cleaning up. It was the starting of a family. It was the personal changes that helped Shawn Michaels get back into the ring. And if there might have been any change to the 7 1/2 years of entertaining matches he provided when he came back, I'm glad it went down the way that it did.
