Was it better and if so why?
I've looked back at classic matches and get sucked in again like never before. The crowds were alot better back than and obviously things were alot more edgier but I really enjoyed it more than they didn't shove too much crap down your throat like they do now.

It depends what year you're talking about. 2002 and 2003, while they have their fair share of great matches, were largely garbage booking-wise.

Like anything else, there were parts that were better and there were parts that were worse.

2000-mid 2001 was definitely better. From the InVasion angle onward, things just were on a steady decline before bottoming out in 2006 or 2007.

Up until about July/August, 2001 was the best year in wrestling ever.

My favorite era has always been the period from the night after WM2000, through WM17. In 23 years as a wrestling fan, I have not seen another 365 day period top this one. They had an absolutely stacked roster that they booked to perfection. Everyone had something to do and everyone was massively over. Every week was must-see TV, and you really felt like you missed out if you missed one of the shows, whereas in the current era, the shows have become so interchangeable that missing a week isn't even that big of a deal.

It was a period that had some great wrestlers, with the best of WCW and ECW joining what was already a really solid WWE roster, but in terms of the general tone... I prefer the early 2010s. Less of the 'Look how shocking and scandalous we are! Look, girls in bikinis/playboy/HLA! Swearing! Blood! Concussions!" attitude.

I've always looked back fondly and wondered whether it was because I was a teenager then and still a bit of a mark but after watching a few big matches from 2000-2001 I can say for sure that this time we were really spoiled. Most guys were really over back then and I pretty my liked every one from top to bottom and the PPV's outside of the Big 4 actually felt like big deals not like today where it's obvious they struggle to fill the card with decent feuds/matches.
