then what exactly do you call somebody who takes wrestling at face value, and has no idea how wrestling works? This word just seems to fit.Casual fan doesn't work since a casual fan doesn't necessarily take it at face value either.
I still find it funny that this is the N word of wrestlingto some people.

I haven't met anyone over the age of 9 that thinks wrestling "is real". If I did, I'd be inclined to call them "a fool" or something along those lines.

Fans? Look it up, it's an actual term. Doesn't that also apply to smarks aswell?

They're fans, just the same as anyone that enjoys wrestling.

They're the people who maintain the suspension of disbelief, so maybe they should be called suspenders.

What's wrong with calling them marks? It's meant to be a derogatory term. It's the same term used for victims of carnies and con men. I never use the term unless it's meant to be an insult. I say "wrestling fans". That's probably what everyone said before people read books like Wrestlecrap and decided they know everything about wrestling.

I don't get what's wrong with calling them marks. It seems like a gross over-reaction if someone was to lose it because we called marks, well marks.
I never user marks as a derogatory term (yes, I realise it has its roots in someone being conned but word meanings change over time so that's not a valid argument). Hell, I miss being a mark. I love wrestling now but I REALLY loved wrestling back when I was a mark. Things were a lot more fun back then.

Whenever one person is trying to con or trick or get one over on another person the victim is still called a "mark". The word hasn't evolved at all. Con artists use it every day.
