I don't get what's wrong with calling them marks. It seems like a gross over-reaction if someone was to lose it because we called marks, well marks. I never user marks as a derogatory term (yes, I realise it has its roots in someone being conned but word meanings change over time so that's not a valid argument). Hell, I miss being a mark. I love wrestling now but I REALLY loved wrestling back when I was a mark. Things were a lot more fun back then. Wrestling can still be just as fun, people just have to not take it so seriously. I believe people can still be fans if they allow themselves to be. I honestly believe there is a sadly large niche of pro wrestling fans who almost feel obligated to be cynical toward it. I enjoy it as much as I ever have, it's just in a different way. I like to watch live wrestling, and when I see a match where the wrestlers are able to get the kids all wound up and cheering the babyface and booing the crap out of the heel, it gives me a really warm feeling because I remember feeling just like that kid. I don't care who wins or loses, I care that everybody's having fun, and I'm having fun. I personally think that's an appropriate way for an adult to appreciate wrestling. I forget who said it, but one poster on here said (paraphrasing)"adults who shout down kids for cheering John Cena are an embarrassment". I think that statement was a little harsh, but I think I'd have to agree.
