Said it before, that a "brand split" can only work in two ways. 1- The two brands are "WWE" catering to a PG family audience, and a subsidiary brand that caters to an older, primarily male audience. 2- The two brands are "WWE" and "WCW". Each run (kayfabe) as two rival companies, with their own distinct styles, titles, TV shows, PPV's and rosters that do not cross over and interact except for one "super PPV" Otherwise, the brands are just WWE Red and WWE Blue, and they are meaningless. This. After they abandoned the idea of running WCW as a separate promotion, then the Raw vs. Smackdown thing was always a weak alternative in my view - there was no real sense of tension or rivalry, certainly not compared to just the very name of WCW as an alternative to WWE. Speaking for myself, I was perfectly happy to buy into WCW continuing, despite it obviously being a McMahon-booked enterprise in reality, but then I was never really a WCW fan. When they launched the WWECW brand, I was hoping they would diversify, and create a more "adult" (for want of a better term) brand - the wrestling audience might not be huge, but there differences between what the audience want to watch, and I thought it was a real missed opportunity to cater to a different audience, to offer a different type of style.

I kind of miss the weekly "It's time to end the brand split" threads we used to have. Those threads lasted until last uear, even though te brand split died in 2011 Unify the belt. Do a brand split. And have one guy travel between both shows as undisputed champ. But eh now i wouldn't really do it unless they do a split and enact a new talent initiative to fill out the rosters

I miss WWE knowing how to book a roster top to bottom. The brand split was a method following the acquisitions of ECW and WCW. It worked for its time but then WWE got lazy and neglectful and it devalued the brand split by clearly favoring Raw in promotion and hype. Then it half-assed the end of the split and I don't think it's entirely phased it out yet after half a decade. Now the brand split's ultimate legacy is giving the WWE twice as many titles as it needs. They have just as many titles as they did in 2000 Wwf Ic Euro Hardcore Tag team Womens Wwe Whc Us Ic Tag Divas

It's interesting that the end of the brand split came around the same time of the emphasis on developmental. They have something like 40 guys on the NXT roster now, and I've read that they could eventually have 100-150 under contract when the whole new training center goes into full swing. Yet when they use the same guys on both shows, how many new guys are they actually debuting a year, around 4 or 5? And hardly anyone gets fired anymore. They're going to have to find a way to either cycle the roster better, or manage the roster differently if developmental is actually going to be a meaningful source of talent.

It is interesting that there hasn't been a release from the main roster since Trent Barretta.
