Don't know if it had anything to do with the promo or not, but the match was changed as Muraco replaced Dr.D that night in the Spectrum.

Kayfabe era.
Remember, Kayfabe era.
A LOT more could go over due to the fact that people legitimately thought the heels were bad guys and if the heels and faces caught so much as a glimpse of each other, they'd immediately start fighting each other.
It's the entire reason why the Memphis era was so hot during the Lawler/Kauffman stuff. Today, we'd be bored... saying it was a stupid angle and how we wanted Kauffman gone. Back then, they wanted his head.

If that's the case, then why did Mean Gene immediately summon Hulk Hogan in for an interview right after Piper and Schultz walked out of the camera's view? By this logic, Hulk should have been trying to murder them two.

Kind of on topic, but does WWE ever acknowledge Dr. D?? I want to say I've heard them speak of the "wo-man" promo and maybe even the Stossel interview. I would imagine they wouldn't want to bring this guy up since people can easily research him and see promos like this.

The last time I can ever remember the WWE mentioning him was on the "Are You Serious?" web show last year. Before that was a match or two on the old Madison Square Garden Classics a few years back.

I'm pretty sure he was black-balled over the Stossel incident, and he hasn't been mentioned on WWE TV since. Aside from a couple of clips on "Are You Serious".

Just as shocking was how seemingly coked Piper was in the interview. And Hogan sounded like he did a few lines before he came out himself.

The Stossel incident makes WWF/E look really dumb in hindsight. I know it was kayfabe back then but non-fans and maybe even casual fans aren't going to know that. But as for the topic at hand, I am pretty sure Dr. D would be beaten half to death by Vince if he said any of those things in a promo. Abraham Washington's Kobe Bryan joke would be a walk in the park compared to this.

Piper was always portrayed to be pretty racist during his Mr T feud, what with making monkey noises and his "wears more chains than his ancestors" line, and his Snuka feud was pretty racially sensitive too.
