I don't get any of this. Flair was pretty well behaved, IMO and the Reid story was incredibly touching.

First off let me say that I've always liked JR and think it's BS that he was "retired". That symposium was tremendously entertaining. But I can see why WWE would be upset with him. JR obviously did not give a shit about that event. He kept making fun of the script, said the word "shit", made odd jokes throughout. Whether he was drunk or his Bell's Palsy was acting up, JR was just plain weird during the whole thing. He spent what felt like an eternity introducing the panel. I was bored out of my mind until Flair started being Flair. JR made no attempt at getting things back on track and only contributed to the lunacy. Still not a reason to fire him though.

JR should be employed and paid every day for the rest of his life. If anything has stopped that and he didn't retire legitimately, no matter what it is, I'll be pissed.
If it's that asshole Flair then, I don't think I can actually put in to words how much I dislike that overrated joke.

And Jim Ross will keep crawling back, for some reason. Exactly. I don't think things are as bad for JR as people make them seem.

But the thing is, Ross had just said this about two weeks ago at a Q&A in Scotland: "Ross said that he would "never" retire and always be there when WWE needed him. He added that the day he retired is the day they would bury him. " Certainly doesn't sound like the words of a man who would've been planning to retire about a week later.

I feel like there must be at least a little more to this story for Jim Ross to be held so directly accountable. Maybe he was told beforehand to go over with Flair what kinds of things should or shouldn't be said, as a speculative example. Doesn't seem right though, I'm sure JR was just trying to be fair to Flair. I'm with you. I think people are a little to quick to pull the 'Vince is a dick' card here.

For those who haven't seen the video, Ric had mentioned that he had put his WWEHOF ring in Reid's casket during the funeral service. Fast forward a few months later when Flair is with his daughter at an NXT taping, Triple H presents him with a replacement HOF ring with Reid's initials and birth date engraved on the inside.

Funnily enough Mick Foley was kind of the one that started the chaos when he thought Jim Ross ignored asking Ric Flair a question.

I'm not entirely sure I believe the whole "JR wasn't drinking" story, either, considering he kept making sarcastic references to "It's only Snapple..." in a "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" sort of tone...

If this is true, then I think the problem was that it was a 2k14 sponsored thing. Cross promotional stuff probably needs to be less daring than that. Even if 2k14 was alright with the way the panel went, I don't know if WWE likes that kind of reputation spreading around to businesses, that they set up discussion panels with their stars and it turns out that way.

yes because god forbid we ever hold Ric Flair accountable for his own terrible decisions.

yes because god forbid we ever hold Ric Flair accountable for his own terrible decisions. That I think was purely based on who had more use to the company, not about accountability, again assuming this is true.

Unfortunately, it's looking less likely to be that.

Even if this isn't news, Shempaholic already explained why WWE isn't completely in the wrong here.

The solution is to stop putting flair on any programs as he isn't needed for anything and seems to only cause problems.

I think there's more to this story than we know. Generally speaking, people don't just get fired, there's usually a long list of reasons why things are not working out.
